Bloodstock Bound: Space Pistol
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Space Pistol
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Space Pistol: We are Space Pistol from Milton Keynes. We have Dan on vocals and guitars; Ash on bass, guitars and vocals; and Joe on drums and vocals.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
Space Pistol: ADHD-infused grunge riffs with the right amount of heavy. Imagine if Queens of the Stone Age, System of A Down, Nirvana, and Rage Against the Machine had a baby who made music with deliberate dissonance and big heavy riffs.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Space Pistol: A friend of ours recommended we play M2TM. We didn’t know what to expect but thought it would be a great chance of playing to some new people and meeting some great bands. That’s exactly what it was! We ended up getting the judge's vote each round and landed the spot in the finals and won! It was amazing!!!
The Razor's Edge: How tough was this years M2TM competition?
Space Pistol: If you’re asking if the other bands were amazing, they were incredible! It was so fun! Every single band we shared a stage with was not only awesome but also the nicest people! It really showcased how supportive, open, and incredible the local music scene is. Despite how much underground music is struggling at the moment, the ties between the bands trying to put their stamp on the world are only getting stronger. M2TM showcased that unity more than ever, even though it's a competition! Nobody was bitter about not getting through and we would have felt the same had we not; the calibre of bands was so high!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Space Pistol: It’s amazing! It’s been one hell of a year for us, we’ve toured, we’ve released our debut album, so much has happened and we’re feeling real momentum. Bloodstock feels like a real stamp of validation of what we’re doing. We can’t wait to play!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Space Pistol: Contagious high-energy, a huge sound, and the three of us jumping around in our pink boilersuits! We go heavy, we go melodic, we groove, and we scream. There’ll be something for everyone, which makes Bloodstock the perfect place for our live show.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Space Pistol: We’re on the Sunday. We can’t confirm times yet, but pos we’re on in the morning.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Space Pistol: If the bands we played with at MT2M are anything to go by, the New Blood Stage is the place to be!! But outside of that, we’ll be checking out Clutch and Architects. The Vintage Caravan are awesome, so we’ll be there for their set! unpeople is a band that keeps popping up on amazing gigs, we’ll be checking them our and also asking who their booking agent is!!! Lol!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Space Pistol: It’s an amazing opportunity! We’ve just released our album at end of June and we’re currently touring that, the reception has been great! So you’ll be seeing us near your town over the next 12 months!
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Space Pistol: Actually, we’re getting an AirBnB! Haha! We’re there for the whole festival, but as we’re playing on the Sunday, we want to stay fresh and ready.
The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?
Space Pistol: We know Spudman will be there, so we’ll be getting some potatoes for sure!
