DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Wall

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Wall sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Elliot: An easy question for us... Black Sabbath - Paranoid. Simply because this was the album that started this musical journey for us, way back when we were just 8 years old. An album that we both still listen to regularly as well and stands the test of time. Full of phenomenal riffs, creative drumming, massive vocal melodies and just incredible song writing.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Elliot: Ohh that is a tough one. A lot of good album covers to choose from. I'd say one of my favourites has to be 'Beneath The Remains' by Sepultura though so I'd have to go with that... even if it is a bit dark in style for a sunny desert island.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Elliot: Well my typical go to drink on a night out is Vodka and Coke, and Ryan's is Whiskey and Coke but since we are on a desert island I guess it would need to be something more tropical. Some sort of fruity cocktail I guess... maybe a passion fruit caipirinha or a cosmopolitan. I could definitely see myself sipping on one of those whilst lying in a hammock on the beach looking out at the sea with the sun beaming down on me.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Elliot: Probably my new red Winnebago Deal shirt. It was their original shirt back in the day and I missed out on it for years but always wanted one. The Deal recently got back together for a one off show in Oxford and reprinted those shirts so I made sure I got my hands on one.... so if I was stuck on a desert island, I would make sure to have this with me. I think having a colourful shirt on a beach would be better in the hot sun rather than a black shirt too.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Elliot: I mean to be honest with Ryan being my twin brother, I have grown up with him and we have gone through life together, hanging out with the same friends etc so I would be able to survive just fine with him. That being said if I had to choose I would say my wife and son as it would be difficult being without them for eternity.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Elliot: It would have to be an early Black Sabbath show.... maybe from one of their many jams at The Star Club in Hamburg in 1969 when they had their residency there. I think that time would have been one of the best to hear the band as they would have been in their prime, and probably at their tightest since they pretty much jammed together all day, every day.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Elliot: I guess I would have to send it to my other band Desert Storm since I know the guys well. I'd like to think they would come and save us. We recently did an escape room thing with Chris White and Matt Ryan as part of Chris White's stag do and they were both good at problem solving, therefore I feel if the two of them put their minds together they would be able to work out a way for me and Ryan to get home.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Elliot: Haha well with Wall being a two piece band I guess it would be survival of the fittest, I'd have to sacrifice Ryan... that being said, with him being my brother and all, I don't think I could physically do it. I'd probably just try and get some mad skills like Tom Hanks in Cast away and sharpen a stick and throw it into the sea like a javelin to catch fish for dinner lol. On that note I would also try and find myself a Wilson.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Elliot: Well in that case it would have to be Bill Ward from Black Sabbath as the dude is my hero when it comes to drums.
