The man, the myth, the legend… Myles Kennedy should need no introductions having fronted Alter Bridge for twenty one years and, of course, he is the voice of Slash’s solo project. His distinctive vocal tone is immediately recognisable the minute it hits the airwaves.

This October he finds time amongst his other projects to release his third solo album ‘The Art of Letting Go’. The title track to which opens this record, with its confronting drum into hitting you square in the face and setting the tone for things to come. This rock anthem has it all, from that ferocious drum beat through to catchy riffs, exquisite variations in pace and, of course, those powerful vocal tones.

As the album continues the pace increases; ‘Say What You Will’ with a dark little undertone hits at breakneck speed and the captivating ‘Mr Downside’ continues, so much so I had to double check I hadn’t accidentally increased the playback speed.

Throughout Kennedy uses his lyrics to tell a story, no greater so than on ‘Say What You Will’ where the accompanying music video helps weaves the tale of a bullied and timid student who breaks out of her shell.

‘Miss You When You’re Gone’, ‘Behind The Veil’ and ‘Eternal Lullaby’ all allow moments of introspection; ‘Behind The Veil’ specifically lowering the pace of the album and allowing Kennedy’s voice to really shine through.

This isn’t an album full of cookie cutter tracks all sounding the same. Kennedy has put in the time and effort to produce ten songs all distinctively different, yet each a future rock classic in their own right. Whilst he breaks no new ground in the song writing, what he does is show just how good his is at what he does; this is a rock artist at his writing and performing peak!
