DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Arrow Valley

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Arrow Valley

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Arrow Valley sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Mark: Hybrid Theory: the reason I love music and play drums
Luke: Dance of Death - Iron Maiden. It has a perfect mix of shorter/catchy songs and long epics.
Abbas: Private - iri, Just a very chill and funky album
Nick: Audioslave by Audioslave, because you know ...Chris Cornell voice.
Arron: "One Day Remains - Alter Bridge" the timing of its release was at the most influential point in my life, every track is golden and I still resonate with many of the sentiments from this album.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Mark: Avril Lavigne: Greatest Hits. I mean, just look at that album cover 😅
Luke: Rocket Ride - Edguy, because it’s kinda whacky!
Abbas: Wadachi - Spyair, It's nice to look at
Nick: Incubus - morning view, because who doesn't want a picture of the sea while stuck on an island.
Arron: Probably Pearl Jam's Binaural album cover, because it's an image of a nebula, really atmospheric album too.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Mark: BREWDOG: Elvis Juice
Luke: Proper Job IPA by St Austell. Very tasty and let’s say… efficient.
Abbas: Monster mango loco
Nick: Bourbon
Arron: Thatchers Lemon Haze, that shit is sooooo good on a hot day

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Mark: OG Ascendancy shirt from 2005
Luke: A hoodie which I bought when I went to see Stratovarious and Sonata Arctica co-headline in Norway. Two bands in one!
Abbas: Does the Flea signature Jazz bass count as merch?
Nick: Plectrum I swiped from Dino cazarez
Arron: Gojira Flying Whales 10th Anniversary Shirt

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Mark: I’d rather be shipwrecked with Arron. So he can teach me useless facts 🙂
Luke: Crash Bandicoot. He’s always able to escape marooned islands.
Abbas: A boat maker
Nick: Rolf Harris, heard he's good at painting, he could teach me.
Arron: British SAS special forces team, because, survival right? all my band members are pen pushers 😉
DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Arrow Valley

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Mark: Queen at Live Aid
Luke: Joe Satriani live in San Francisco. That album really opened my eyes up to great guitar playing.
Abbas: Billy Talent at Rock City
Nick: Pretty much any korn gig, amazing every time I've seen them.
Arron: ooowwff Pearl Jam's VH1 acoustic session, just so raw, Eddie was on fire in that performance.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Mark: Dear Luke, we are trapped on a desert island at X Coordinates. We have found a bounty of Jackson Guitars and Original Pokemon cards. Please send Meri to help us…
Luke: Christopher Bowes from Alestorm. As a pirate metal band, I’d like to hope they’d show up on a galleon full of rum to come and save us.
Abbas: "Time Baker - Something Orange
He gives timely responses"
Nick: I'm away from all people, why do I need rescuing? If anything my message would be telling people to f**k off.
Arron: Bruce Dickinson, 1. because he can fly a plane... 2. it would give Luke a semi.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Mark: Arron, as I know he’d never turn to cannibalism 🙂
Luke: Mark or Arron, to end their multiple hour debates on society/politics/general riff-raff that we have zero control of, so we can then enjoy the peace and quiet
Abbas: ???
Nick: Depends if you want a lean cut or something more fatty...
Arron: Mark, because I read his answer first, so I know he's going to try and eat me!!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Mark: The Rev, Avenged Sevenfold
Luke: My ex-guitar teacher, Simon Lees. He really pushed me to become the guitarist I am today. I have a lot to thank him for!
Abbas: Flea
Nick: That would be my Dad, if anyone had influenced my career, my way of thinking and outlook on life, it'd be him.
Arron: Mark Tremonti for sure, very humble, genuine dude, great lyrics and licks.
