Album Review: Tremonti - The End Will Show Us
Reviewed by Tim Finch
Mark Tremonti is one of the most accomplished and talented guitarists of our generation. Along with his exceptional work in Creed and Alter Bridge there is his broad range of solo work. From the five previous albums under the “Tremonti” banner to his Frank Sinatra tribute masterpiece, Mark has shown his versatility not only on guitar but also vocally.
To kick off the new year Mark releases the sixth Tremonti album ‘The End Will Show Us How’. An opus that includes twelve new songs highlighting the talents of this musical genius.
As the atmosphere building intro to ‘The Mother, The Earth and I’ kicks in, the listener is prepared for what is to come. Slowly the guitar builds, in volume and in weight until we are walking in step with this song. It has a dark yet epic feel to it, the atmosphere lies heavy on your ears as they are pounded by the riff and Tremonti’s rasping vocal.
The pace and intensity ramps up for ‘One More Time’ with a chainsaw riff opening up affairs and the song not letting the listener loose from its grip throughout its four minute run time.
The overall feel of this album is heavy yet bombastic. It’s still got that classic Creed/Alter Bridge feel to the song writing, but there is a darker feel within the tone of the songs adding weight to the delivery of the work. Its Alter Bridge but with a mean attitude!
‘It’s Not Over’ does change the tone a little, a ballad of sorts that is driven by the vocals over any instrumentation, and what a set of lungs Tremonti has! ‘Tomorrow We Will Fail’ is more traditional Tremonti in every sense, but don’t get too comfortable as ‘I’ll Take My Chances’ ramps up the visceral guitar attack once more.
‘The End Will Show us’ perfectly encapsulates Tremonti’s talents as a song writer, guitarist and vocalist. An album that doesn’t rely on his existing fan base as this record has something to offer everyone. It’s Tremonti on steroids and it sounds bloody good.
