DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring The Breathing Method

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find The Breathing Method sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest. 

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

James - Nirvana Unplugged. Because in times of despair the music has to be fitting.
Gee - This is hard but I'll go with Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo I'm burning star Volume One: From Fear through the eyes of madness.
Scott - Thrice, The Artist in the Ambulance, it’s just perfection from start to finish.
Jamie - Difficult to answer. I’d say there’s easily hundreds I’d want to pick but an album to me that’s pure perfection is Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins.
Duncan - Iowa album as it's a slipknot classic

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

James - Blink smiley face. Just for the sake of a smile lol.
Gee - Korn - Korn
Scott - Machine Head - Through The Ashes of Empires
Jamie - Oaft!! It could be London Calling, Nevermind, Minor Threat or a thousand others. I’m gonna pick Surfer Rosa by Pixies as its stunning elegant and I’m a huge fan of the designer Vaughan Oliver.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

James - Cold Buckfast.
Gee - Dead Man's Fingers spiced Rum with coke
Scott - Reapers Rum, it’s an independent rum from St Andrews in Fife and it is exquisite!
Jamie - Williams Bros Joker IPA. Don’t even need to think about it!
Duncan - Water so I don't die

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

James - Faith No More tee shirt (8 pointed star).
Gee - My Ignite Baseball cap
Scott - Thrice, The Artist in the Ambulance Hoodie
Jamie - My Tool Hoodie from the most recent tour. It’s baggy, comfortable, warm and the most expensive hoodie I’ve ever bought!!!
Duncan - Seasick Steve hoodie

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

James - My family.
Gee - My wife and kids
Scott - I don’t understand why the guys would want their families to be shipwrecked with them, seems cruel. I’d pick Cory Taylor, he couldn’t run from my incessant questions!
Jamie -My girlfriend Emma. Cheesy, I know, but it’s also true. Oh, and my 2 sons Grayson and Brodie, as long as their mum can come pick them up for half the week! 😂

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

James - Jimi Hendrix Isle of Wight festival.
Gee - Alice in Chains Unplugged
Scott - S&M, Metallica… all other answers are unfortunately wrong
Jamie - Nirvana at Reading ‘92
Duncan - Sabaton live in Glasgow

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

James - Corey Taylor.
Gee - Bruce Dickinson Iron Maiden as he's a qualified pilot.
Scott - Gee stole my answer so I guess I would pick Henry Rollins, the guy is a nutcase so he would find a way to get us rescued
Jamie - Scott would be too busy rescuing himself.
              James would be too tired and/or sick.
              Gee would probably be drinking rum.
              Duncan is strong and is always early! So, Duncan!
Duncan - Scott or Gee

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

James - Jamie Haining because he'd pick me! 😂
Gee - Scott or Jamie most meat on them.
Scott - Jamie for two reasons… he’s the biggest so there’s more eating and he’s annoying so we wouldn’t have to listen to him anymore.
Jamie - Scott. I can sing his vocals but would struggle to cover the rest of the band’s duties! lol
Duncan - Jamie I guess.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

James - Kurt Cobain.
Gee - Jonathan Davis
Scott - Corey Taylor, I have loved every project he has been involved with and honestly I’d love to pick his brains.
Jamie - Can I say a band rather than 1 musician? Kerbdog. The first album on tape was on my Walkman on repeat continuously at high school. It was at the point I decided I wanted to play in a band, it all comes down to that experience! Also, a special mention to the guys from Biffy Clyro. I used to hang out with those guys whilst in my old band and looking back, their commitment to rehearsals, writing and developing the band was outstanding. We would be more keen to drink cheap cider and party. They treated the band like a job, then party!
