DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Skraeckoedlan

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Skraeckoedlan

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found Swedens of Skraeckoedlan sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

Hello, Robert here. The singer and one of the guitar players of the band Skraeckoedlan. Since we are spread across the land and the moment, you will get my answers to your questions.

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

I think that I will have to say the album that has made the biggest impact on me when i was growing up, and also as a song writer. That album is 'Pinkerton' by Weezer. I think it is the best album ever recorded. It is heavy as a really heavy rock, and the song writing on it is truly amazing.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

I would have to say the purple album by Baroness. John Baizleys art is so beautiful and that album kicks so much ass.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Since I have a history in the boy scouts, I think I would be able to gather drinking water by gathering coconuts and by building a machine out of trash and driftwood I would be able to distill sea water. So the drink I would like to have in the bar is coffee. You have to have coffee!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

When I was growing up in Sweden you could sometimes find lunch boxes and coffee thermos with like turtles stickers on them. So I would have to say a coffee thermos from black sabbath, so i can bring my coffee from the bar when i go on treasure hunts on the island.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Brian Cox or maybe Brian May. I love everything about astronomy and i also love queen. Although my band members are also interested in science and cool nerdy stuff, so I wouldn't hate only having them there.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

I don't really go on big shows since I'm not a huge fan of big crowds of people (so being stranded on a remote island sounds perfect) so i have mostly seen smaller bands on smaller festivals. The best live show i have ever seen is a gig by my friends in New Keepers of the Water Towers at a small festival called Guerilla Festivalen in Sweden. I cried alot during that show, it was so epic. So that one.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Once again I would have to say Brian May from Queen. He seems to be such a nice person, and the fact that he is a astrophysicist makes him the perfect guy to help me science the crap out of the island.

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Since everyone is vegetarians in the band I don't think we would be able to eat meat even if sacrificed one of us. But i think I would have to say Henrik (the other guitar player) so i can play all the solos. He also have a big beard that we could knit clothes from.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

I would save Rivers Coumo from Weezer. He taught me that you can be a cool nerd in a cool band even if you aren't that popular, and that gave me the courage i needed to start playing music as a kid.
