DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Buried In Bermuda
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Buried In Bermuda sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Alex: The album I'd choose is Lateralus, by Tool because it's sensational.
Ben: Mine would have to be Stadium Arcadium, by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It’s a double album, so provides a lot of listening time, and there is not a bad song on the album, it is the Chilis at the peak of their song writing. Also, is there a better place to listen to Wet Sand than on a desert island – I am imagining this as a nice tropical Devil Island, you may be able to tell.
Gilles: Rust In Peace for me, as it got me into guitar, and still has some of the best-ever metal riffs and solos.
Kyle: I'd want something with a bit of everything I reckon. Though I don't think there's a "now that's what I call rock n metal" album sadly, gap in the market there though. Perhaps LED ZEPPELIN IV.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Alex: The album cover I'd get as a poster would have to be Obzen by Meshuggah so if anyone ever finds us, they know I've got good taste.
Ben: The Vertigo of Bliss, Biffy Clyro, if you don’t know it have a search…
Gilles: The album cover I'd get is Pantera's 'Vulgar Display Of Power' as it shows so much raw aggression and power - regardless of whether or not it was a real punch.
Kyle: I've not necessarily listened to this band in a long time but Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park just as a Nostalgia trip. It was one of the first albums I bought with my own money.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Alex: I'd have water because I'm boring.
Ben: Pina Coladas… and getting caught in the rain...
Gilles: Probably an ice-cold, high-quality lager.
Kyle: I wouldn't choose this in a pub to be honest but if I'm on a sun-drenched island for eternity maybe Pina Coladas – guess I’ll be sharing with Ben! But if we're talking survival probably water is ideal.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Alex: I'd save my AC/DC tour shirt from 2016 as it was my first piece of band merch.
Ben: A Buried in Bermuda vest – suns out guns out hey!
Gilles: Probably my 'Northants Rocks 2024' festival t-shirt, as it was our first-ever 'proper festival' appearance as a band.
Kyle: Probably an old Nirvana t-shirt but again I'm thinking for the nostalgia.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Alex: I'd rather have been shipwrecked with Gilles' sister.
Ben: Steve Backshall – wildlife expert, enthusiastic survivalist, great rower and a good work out buddy! Or maybe Jeremy Wade, he knows how to survive in the wild and he would fish us up a “monster” to eat for dinner!
Gilles: Probably Alex's mum, purely as revenge for him taking my sister.
Kyle: I'll probably get in trouble if I don't say my wife... Though I'm not sure she'd want to be stuck on an island with me to be fair.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Alex: I'd have a live recording of Stray From The Path supporting Beartooth in 2023 at the O2 Academy in Birmingham because it was one of the most insane sets I've ever seen.
Ben: Red Hot Chili Peppers at Slane Castle, 2003. I would have said Alter Bridge at Royal Albert Hall too, but I was actually there, I wasn’t at Slane, sadly.
Gilles: Probably Metallica with the S&M orchestra (Live, 1999). So epic!
Kyle: Live Aid 1985. Again, just for the variety and I bet it was insane to see that many icons on one day.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Alex: I'd send the message in a bottle to Stewart Copeland to wind him up.
Ben: Joe Duplantier of Gojira, he would probably swoop in riding a whale.
Gilles: I'd send a message to Bruce Dickinson and ask him to come and fly us back in Ed Force One!
Kyle: The Proclaimers because they'd walk at least 500 miles... Maybe 500 more. Actually, I think this is a terrible answer.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Alex: Gilles is getting sacrificed.
Ben: Gilles, sorry mate.
Gilles: Ben has the most meat, so we would survive longer.
Kyle: Gilles. No further questions.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Alex: I'd save Matt Gartska because the least he could do is give me his drum kit for saving him
Ben: Mine would be Chris Cornell, even though he is not an out-and-out-bassist, his songwriting has had the biggest impact on me, musically and emotionally.
Gilles: Difficult one, but probably Eddie Van Halen who inspired me to keep playing guitar and always aspire for more.
Kyle: These questions are deep... Jack Black, just seems like decent dude and would also be a laugh to be fair.
