Bloodstock Bound: Maatkare

Bloodstock Bound: Maatkare

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Maatkare

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Maatkare: We are Maatkare

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Maatkare: We are a blend of melodic, old school and blackened death metal, with a focus on themes around women in power from ancient Egypt and beyond. We hope to give a voice of some of the coolest women through time that have been lost in the narrative through history.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Maatkare: Our debut album was released in October 2024, so since then we’ve been booking some select dates in the UK and Europe to bring this to our fans, Bloodstock was a key part of our plans for this year.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Maatkare: Bloodstock is fantastic, our bassist has played a few times with their prog/power band Dakesis. As a festival, we love that Bloodstock champions emerging talent and we are honoured to join such an amazing lineup. It’s been fantastic to add this festival into our touring plans for this year.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Maatkare: Some epic pharaohicous death metal, lot’s of wholesome, energetic fun, true friendship and hopefully we’ll empower women and others to follow their passions. In fact, we would love to have as many women and others in the audience for our set!

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Maatkare: We are currently set to take the stage on Sunday and once our set time has been confirmed, we’ll be sharing this with all our fans!

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Maatkare: There are so many! For us we’ll be supporting our friends in Rites To Ruin, Tiberius and Crown Solace - Fortune Teller are also on our radar as without their drummer, we wouldn’t have found ours! It’s so important to us to build a scene and community with the smaller and more independent bands. We will also be checking out some of the bigger artists like Gojira, Obituary and Kataklysm.

The Razor's Edge: Playing the EMP Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Maatkare: We’ve already embarked on a mini UK tour and we’ve just played a Big Ass Metal Fest in the Netherlands and Underground Death Fest in Germany. We’ve got another show coming up at the end of the year in Diest, Belgium with Vermilia and after that we’ll be looking at booking some shows across Europe whilst we finish up our second album where we will continue voicing lost stories that should not be forgotten.

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Maatkare: As Bloodstock is sold out this year, we won’t be camping with the fans, but we will definitely be in the thick of it and interacting with fans in the main arena. It’s cliche, but true, we can’t do what we love, without the fans. And to say thank you, we’ll  have some special limited edition Maatkare goodies to give away too, so if you see us, make sure you come and say hi.

The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

Maatkare: For us, it will be a mixture of water, green tea and good old english tea. We don’t really drink alcohol as a band, but it’s important for us to stay hydrated and nourish our bodies as well as we can when we’re on the road as this can take such a toll on touring musician.
