Bloodstock Bound: Preyrs
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Preyrs
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Preyrs: Hey! We’re PREYRS. Amy Montgomery, songwriter and lead vocalist. Michael Mormecha, songwriter, drummer and producer, Nolan Donnelly on guitar and Ciarán McGreevy on bass!
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
Preyrs: We could be the black sheep of Bloodstock as we might not fit as neatly into the ‘metal’ box as the other bands. PREYRS sits in that space where alternative rock gets heavy and emotionally raw. We pull from metal energy - the intensity, the catharsis and we definitely bring the weight. Perhaps it could be described as heavy, healing alternative rock.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Preyrs: We were blown away to be invited to Bloodstock. Whilst PREYRS is technically a new project, it is the continuation and evolution of Amy Montgomery, Michael Mormecha and their band. Stepping into this new alias with not one song released yet meant that we had to get creative with how to land slots like this one before starting to drop the music. We shot a few live sessions in a majestic 1865 Ironmongery in Belfast to capture the live, raw energy of PREYRS. The Bloodstock team seemed to resonate with these videos and the forthcoming album and the offer came through. We’re super excited to start releasing the music from 10 July and honoured to be part of Bloodstock!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Preyrs: It means a lot. Bloodstock is legendary! It’s a gathering of people who obviously live and breathe heavy music. To be a part of that, especially as a band that sits on the edge of genres, is both an honour and a statement. It tells us that people are open to raw expression, whatever form it takes. We can’t wait!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Preyrs: PREYRS’ show is both a storm and a sanctuary. Where darkness is acknowledged and light is given permission to enter again. The music moves Amy into an almost trance-like state, it’s then you know it’s not just a gig but a kind of deeper release and rising. Expect groove, gritty, emotive vocals, conscious lyrics and kickass stage presence.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Preyrs: Sunday!
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Preyrs: Honestly super excited to see Gojira. We love their music and their whole loving ethos for the planet and first nations people. Also we can’t wait to see the other bands on the New Blood Stage, especially NI M2TM winners If It Bleeds!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Preyrs: 2025 is an exciting year for us! We’ve just announced our signing with Pelagic Records. This is massive and we’re so grateful! It feels good to be on an independent label who really cares about the music and the artists.
So of course this means a bunch of new music is coming. Our debut album will be released this November, just in time for heading out on an EU tour supporting New Model Army. This will be our second tour with them and will be some of our biggest shows to date including Palladium in Cologne at 4000 capacity! Excited doesn’t really cut it!
Next year we’re at Planet Rock’s Winter’s End Festival as well as touring our debut record. We love playing live, it’s where the real energy is! Onwards and upwards. The sky is the limit for PREYRS and we’re excited for the future.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Preyrs: Oh I hope we will be camping for the weekend! If we do, we’ll be where the craic is!
The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?
Preyrs: Water & Beer!
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
Preyrs: See you there!🤘
