DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Kuro

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Kuro

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Kuro sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

K: Oh god, starting with the tough ones? I’m gonna spend zero thought on this and say St Vincent’s MASSEDUCTION - Big inspiration, it’s got a bit of hype, a bit of mellow and overall is a little weird which I vibe with.

Robbie:  Is it cheating to take a best of album? Best of Bowie would be my pick. He's soundtracked my whole life, so it seems only fair he soundtracks my inevitable death too

Ruffy: Oh shit, that's a hard one. I'm gonna say TOOL 10,000 days. Seems to be that one album I ALWAYS go back to no matter what the mood.

J.B.: Vain ‘No Respect’

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Robbie: Madonna - True Blue. It'd be nice to have something pretty to look at every once in a while if I'm gonna be stuck with these guys.

K: Robbie’s True Blue poster. I don’t listen to Madonna but I want it just to spite him.

JB: H.I.M ‘Razorblade Romance’

Ruffy: Ohhhhh takes me back to the Kerrang mag days. Needs to be Kolosis by Meshuggah cos it's bad ass.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Ruffy: I’m gonna be boring here and just say a nice cold pint of beer. Can't go wrong.

Robbie: I do enjoy a margarita. Plus the salt on the glass will help me with my electrolytes whilst I get drunk so yknow…

K: Single malt scotch. Smokey. On ice.

JB: Soda water and lime

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

JB: The Riff bar vest top

Ruffy: A good old Alice n chains tee !

K: Smashing Pumpkins ZERO tank top. Any day.

Robbie: I have a pretty neat alkaline trio hoodie that'll help me stay warm on those cold nights

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Ruffy: Wow u trying to get me chucked out the band?! Genuinely any of my band mates tbh. But im just gonna say JB as i've known him the longest 🤣 and he's a good lad!

JB: My dog

Robbie: Bear Grylls would probably be a fair shout. I'm sure he'd have more of an idea on how to survive and get the hell out of here.

K: Someone who knows how to make a raft out of the ship that just got wrecked.

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Kuro

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

K: Could be ANY of the times I’ve seen Nine Inch Nails, or Smashing Pumpkins…

JB: Guns N Roses - London Stadium

Ruffy: Meshuggah

Robbie: Murderdolls at the Kentish Town Forum 2011. Probably my favourite show of all time? It's up there anyways. It was almost like I wrote the setlist myself or close enough.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

K: Meatloaf on a giant bat, flying off this island Like A Bat Out Of Hell

Robbie: Do Iron Maiden still have Ed Force One? Reckon Bruce Dickinson will nip round and pick us up?

JB: Billy Idol coming to my rescue on a Jet Ski shouting ‘Yeah’ every time he hits a wave

Ruffy: This one is hard!

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Robbie: Well I reckon JB will probably have already left the rest of us to go be stranded on his own deserted island, so I guess that leaves Ruffy... He's got those drummer muscles.

JB: We’ve decided it’s myself as I lead the cleanest lifestyle so would probably be the best for eating. I imagine I’d be like Wagu meets Mutton.

K: I’m vegan but I guess human meat doesn’t count right? I’ll take J.B’s wager. He tastes pretty decent. Let’s go

Ruffy: I'd eat K cos he has tasty looking tattoos

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Ruffy: My most influential is eloy casagrande he is an absolute beast

Robbie: That's probably gonna be David Bowie, from my parents playing his music and showing me Labyrinth at a young age to myself deep diving into how his career evolved over the years, always forging his own path. That being said, I'm probably about ten years too late to save his ass so y'know

K: I’d likely say Trent Reznor, but I don’t think he’d be too thrilled at the idea of being shipwrecked on a desert island and would be pretty mad about it. He might write some cool angsty songs about it though.

JB: A. Ville Hermanni Valo
