DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Rituals

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Rituals

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found UK based modern metallers Rituals sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Lewis: Without a doubt I’d have grabbed 'This is the Six' by While She Sleeps. Being shipwrecked must be horrific but at least I’ll be able to headbang away the starvation and dehydration!

Dom: '...And Justice For All' by Metallica. Because it’s the best thrash album ever and Lars crushed it.

Ewan: Bury Tomorrow 'Earthbound'I need some big choruses to keep me going

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Lewis: I would be smacking the glorious artwork of Plini’s 'Impulse Voices' album on the wall because it’s absolutely nuts and I feel it would supply some soothing moments during my slow but certain descent into insanity.

Dom: Sepultura – 'Arise' because it’s such a heavy album and the art is amazing

Ewan: Architects 'For Those That Wish To Exist', I remember seeing it for the first time and thinking it was such an original idea for artwork

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Lewis: Guinness. With a dash of blackcurrant. Because it's lush. And I can guarantee our bass player will say Blue Moon. With a slice of orange.

Dom: Twinings English Breakfast Tea without a doubt

Ewan: As you can tell Dom is about 80, so I’m gonna have to choose something to level it out. I’ll go with a Brewdog Elvis Juice, 1 of those a day will keep me in good spirits.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Lewis: I would have saved my While She Sleeps 'Sleeps Society' Hoodie. Gotta look good even on Devil’s Island.

Dom: An Iron Maiden shirt just to irritate Ewan and Lewis all day.

Ewan: My Depeche Mode 'Playing The Angel' shirt, have to make sure if someone comes over to save us they know who’s got the best music taste.

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Rituals

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Lewis: Kevin Hart all day long because at least he would have been funny…

Dom: Somebody that’s been shipwrecked before

Ewan: Don’t know why Lewis wants a comedian when he’s got me! Bring along Gordon Ramsey, he’ll probs shout at us all and cook something up.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Lewis: Slipknots live at Download 2009 video. The greatest metal show ever recorded in my personal opinion.

Dom: Any Gojira show cos they’re all flawless

Ewan: As you can tell Lewis wanting to put a video in a Walkman says it all really.  But I’d go for Metallica Live in Moscow 1991, the sound of the band on that set is unreal.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Lewis: The letter would be for James Hetfield in Metallica because that geezer has a lot of money and he could instantly send a helicopter or two for the boys.

Dom: BRUCE DICKINSON BECAUSE HE CAN FLY A GODDAMN PLANE

Ewan: Agree with Dom on this one unfortunately, we need someone with a plane!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Lewis: I would say me because I'm the chubbiest member so everyone would have a fair bit of scran. However Dom, our bass player is a huge Iron Maiden fan so he has to go. Sorry Dom lad.

Dom: Ewan because he has the biggest guns

Ewan: Appreciate the compliment but it’s 2 against 1, sorry Dom but you’ve gotta go

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Lewis: Loz Taylor from While She Sleeps. No matter what issues he has faced regarding his vocals and surgeries on his vocal cords he is still making music and learning how to be the best he can every single day.

Dom: Chuck Schuldiner

Ewan: Rob Flynn, how that guy writes those songs I’ll never know.
