DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring The Trousers
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find The Trousers sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Z.K. Black Sabbath – Sabbath bloody sabbath. It’s an album that I have been listening to since I was 13, it’s magical, deep, never get tired of it, it’s integrating power riffs and emotional songwriting.
P.L. It's a difficult question. My parents introduced me to music through The Beatles. That's why I would take The Beatles The White Album with me. It's also a double album, so it has twice as many songs.
A.L. Metallica - Load. Because this album defined and shaped my music taste a lot. I used to listen the whole album day by day.
S.G. This one is a toughie… It would definitely be AC/DC, maybe ‘Let there be rock’. Tough decision, because if I choose AC DC, I have to miss one of the singers. And I like both Brian and Bon.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Z.K. Judas Priest – Killing Machine. I think Roslaw Szaybo made outstanding covers for the Priest, but it is the best, hands down. The composition, the colours, all breathtaking, the best rock cover ever.
P.L. Again, a tough question, with so many favorite covers. I'd choose Oasis' Definitely Maybe cover. It's an excellent debut album by my favorite band. The cover is a brilliant image of the band by Michael Spencer Jones.
A.L. Maybe Pantera’s Cowboys from hell, it’s cool and very funny.
S. G. Get a Grip from Aerosmith with the cow with and nipple piercing, hilarious, man. My first cassette ever bought.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Z.K. Coffee and water. I stopped drinking alcohol recently. Somebody has to stay sober in the band and manage things on tour while the other members have fun with their drinks. But I don’t mind it.
P.L. I would choose a White Russian, with a little more vodka. But it has everything you need to survive. Vodka, milk, coffee liqueur and ice cubes. I'm still drinking it while I answer the questions.
A.L. Beer, of course 🙂
S.G. Beer of course. A lot.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Z. K. My “Iommi” T-shirt, with an image of the master in his 30’s in a cartoon-style with guitar and two purple skulls in the back with crosses on their foreheads. It makes me feel powerful.
P.L. I drink my coffee every morning from a Motörhead mug. I'd save that one.
A. L. My 15 years old Metallica t-shirt. Incredible quite good quailty, the print still look like I bought this t-shirt yesterday.
S.G. My grey “Road Crew” tee from the Aerosmith 2017 Tour
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Z.K. The entire band with our driver, Laci. They are like family for me.
P. L. With Audrey Hepburn, the most wonderful woman.
A.L. With my band, The Trousers. With this company I always happy and honestly I trust them.
S. G. I’m cool with the situation. Not quite sure about the peace with lady company.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Z.K. Judas Priest, Unleashed in the East, 1979. When I was in highschool I would go to school with bicycle every morning with a stereo in my hand and listened to “Green Manalishi” and “Running wild”. It saved the day.
P.L. The concert film I've seen and listened to the most, is AC/DC's Let There Be Rock. I still listen to it now. That would be great.
A.L. Metallica - Cunning Stunts, 1997
S.G. I think this one should be Motörhead - No Sleep ‘Til Hammersmith. THE POWER!!!
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Z.K. Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains. A guy who can write music like this must be very smart, and he is always cool and reflected, and survived hard times. He could help I’m sure.
P.L. The message in the bottle would be for Pink Floyd. Their brilliant music has accompanied me throughout my life. I trust Roger Waters to save me.
A.L. Bruce Dickinson, I hope he can fly with a plane near to the island and save me 🙂
S.G. Sir Brian May. He is smart, he will figure it all out.
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Z.K. Who pulls the shortest straw.
P.L. As I know the band, we're going to have a drink. By the way, it's from the famous fast food restaurant everywhere.
A.L. Always the drummer 😀
S.G. I don't know if we can help a vegetarian in this situation, so logically Zoli. However, Peti is the one who runs out of reserves the quickest, because he is the thinnest among us. I'm the best cook, so I think I'll get away with all the variations eventually.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Z. K. Tony Iommi again. We need his riffs to survive.
P.L. The one I would save would be Jimmy Page. He's a great guitarist, songwriter and producer. Led Zeppelin is the foundation of rock music.
A.L. Chad Smith from RHCP, I’m originally a drummer, and he is a hell of a drum player and a cool guy.
S.G. Steven Tyler of course. It would be a shame about his voice.
