It's back to Nowrich this evening for a simply amazing two band line up. The first of which being the Floridian nu-metallers, Nonpoint. Who seem to have a bit of a thing for the UK these days, this being the second time we have been treated to a tour that features them in as many years.

Considering it is a Sunday night, the queue on arrival is a really good sight, with a sold out show you generally get a bit of a delay of people coming in, not tonight though. By the time Nonpoint grace the stage the crowd is very nicely plumped out.

One thing I will point out straight away, it feels very much as though the performance that Elias and the gang bring has become that little bit more clean. They bring an energy that has been dialed up from the last time I saw them, an energy which gets the crowd going and ready for the night ahead. Exactly what is needed.

The bonus of tonight's two band line up is that we get a very generous set from Nonpoint, which includes everything you would expect from them. Their beautiful cover of Phil Collins's “In The Air Tonight” a handy song for people that have not come across them before, as let's face it, everyone knows that song, and of course “Bullet With A Name On It”. The latter made the set, a song that arguably is their most well known offering.

All said and done, they are the perfect openers, Lacuna Coil made a great decision in bringing these guys out with them on tour and by the sounds of it, they are heading back over here again next year!

I often forget that some of the bands I get the pleasure of seeing have got another twenty years on me. Through that time though, some, like Lacuna Coil pull fans new and old from a wide variety of generations, from all walks of life. There are people here that are your “standard” alternative crowd, but then you have people that look as though they have just come from their office job. This is so incredibly good to see.

The energy generated by Nonpoint continues, with the last dregs of attendees now making their way in to Epic.
There is so much to say about this performance, as there are only two bands playing tonight the set for Lacuna Coil is long and it spans the majority of their career, right back to 2002’s Comalies. However, being the Sleepless Empire tour, that album features very heavily.

This, their latest album, fits right in amongst the rest of them. All of them carrying that signature Gothic Metal sound that they have absolutely perfected over their career. Both Christina and Andrea Ferro both are sounding absolutely on point, that same perfect blend that they have always had and sounding better than I remember all them years ago.

The duos vocals are really prominent on songs such as “Heaven’s A Lie” and “Swamped” from Comalies and “Spellbound” from Shallow Life. Both of which were released in their earlier years and sound just as incredible as you would hope.

Sleepless Empire though sounds amazing live, “I Wish You Were Dead”, “Gravity” and “Oxygen” giving the classic Lacuna Coil vibes. You can clearly see that they are still just as passionate and enjoying themselves just as much as they always have done. This feels very much like a come back tour for Lacuna Coil, these smaller more intimate shows are amazing to demonstrate that they still have it, and having people travelling from London to Norwich just to see them proves that their fan base is just as faithful as they ever were.

Christina and Andrea’s voices are as good as they have ever been, Diego, Marco and Richard providing the most perfect sounds to fit with the vocal talent as well. Everything works. This current era of Lacuna Coil is definitely a great one. Sleepless Empire is now firmly in my common listening selection.

The tour continues in the UK for a few more nights before heading over to Europe. The Gothic Metal masters are still here and still as good as they ever were.
