As Storm Claudia hit ground over the UK, Wolverhampton prepared itself for a night of heavy metal glory. On one side of town, genre stalwarts Saxon played a show of greatest hits, whilst in the legendary KK’s Steel Mill Orbit Culture were preparing to batter us in ways we could not have previously conceived.

Atlas stormed onto the stage with a point to prove, wasting no time as they launched into ‘Flawless’. The room snapped to attention instantly to the bands thick grooves, sharp rhythms, and a frontman whose intensity set the tone for the night. The crowd, already buzzing for Orbit Culture, quickly found themselves drawn into Atlas’s darker, brooding metalcore edge.

Between their opener and final blow, the band threaded in a series of bruising cuts, each one landing with the same weight and conviction. By the time they closed with ‘Better Off Dead’, Atlas had fully stamped their authority on the night. It was a performance loaded with energy, atmosphere, and enough raw power to turn casual listeners into fans.

Just a few days removed from healding the Holy Goat Stage at Damnation Festival, Gaerea are in Wolverhampton to provide an earth shattering performance to match that of the weekend.

Diving straight into ‘Hellbound’ and immediately shifting the atmosphere to something darker and more dramatic. Their blend of crushing heaviness and eerie melody wrapped itself around the venue as ‘Submerged’ and ‘Hope Shatters’ followed. The brooding dark red lighting helping build the atmosphere. By the time ‘World Ablaze’ hit, the band had fully locked into their stride, tight, intense, and commanding.

The latter half of the set showcased their dynamic range, moving from the ritualistic pulse of ‘Salve’ and ‘Laude’ into the haunting beauty of ‘Wilted Flower’. Closing with ‘Mirage’, Garea left the stage on a high, their final moments hanging in the air like the fog from the smoke machine that had shrouded the room all evening.

Now it was Orbit Culture’s turn to emerge from the smog. Dark lighting and flashing strobes drew the crowd into ‘Death Above Life’, as they detonated the room with a wall of sound. The pit erupted instantly, feeding off the band’s feral energy as they tore into ‘The Storm’ a fitting title for tonight’s weather, along with the actions of the fans in the pit.

As the set deepened, Orbit Culture showed exactly why they’ve become one of metal’s most formidable rising forces. ‘North Star of Nija’ and ‘I, The Wolf’ brought that signature blend of atmosphere and aggression, as well as teeth-grinding power.  ‘From the Inside’ and ‘The Shadowing’ shifted the set into darker territory, whilst the band’s stage presence focused, intense, and completely in command.

Then came the knockout mid-set trio of ‘Bloodhound’, ‘Nerve’, and ‘While We Serve’, each one delivered with ferocious precision, sparking some of the wildest crowd reactions of the night, with pits opening and bodies flying as the band pushed their set into high gear.

Closing with ‘Hydra’ and the towering ‘Vultures of North’, Orbit Culture left Wolverhampton breathless. There may be a storm raging outside, but inside at KK’s the storm had been even more intense.
