Album Review: Fullminator - Omniplasm

When the line up of the band you are reviewing reads Reptilian Deluxe (Vocals), Lord Gartallaz (Drums, Backing vocals), Enforcer Blowmiux (Bass), Cyber Zurrfex (Lead Guitar), and Master Kiununtriux (Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals) it’s likely to go one of two ways. Luckily, the punky thrash of the Puerto Rican outfit is enough to move away from the undoubted gimmickry.
It’s fast and furious from the opening bars of ‘Artificial Immolator (AI)’, and although the rasping vocals are going to be marmite, there’s enough here to keep listening. It’s the rapid delivery of the song with a thrash chug that whilst nothing new, which works well and draws you in.
A bizarre mix of socio-political commentary (‘Checking Accunt$’), and the explanation of the band’s origins (attempting to defeat the evil Colonel Roach on ‘Omniplasm’ makes for a confused theme throughout the five track EP. It’s rough and raw, and at times quite loose but at the heart of this rapid fire third EP is a driving energy that is both endearing and enjoyable. The combination of Overkill, GWAR and Anthrax is present throughout especially on the supercharged cover of The Beastie Boys ‘Fight for You Right’. By all accounts the band’s live shows are crazy with fighting robots and lasers. Sometimes, a bit of silliness with a thrash crossover soundtrack may be just what is needed. Give it a go. You may like it!
