E.P. Review: Graveyard Shifters - Head Turns First, Eyes Follow...
Reviewed by Dan Barnes
Graveyard Shift’s new, self-released E.P., Head Turns First, Eyes Follow, finds the Fins in fine form with four tracks of infectious metal-infused punk n’ roll. Clocking in at barely sixteen minutes the band waste no time in getting the party started and maintain the high-octane infectious grooves through to the end.
There’s a real old-school flavour to the music on offer here and adherents of Europe’s – the continent, not the band – rock legacy will find much to smile about. Graveyard Shifters channel their inner Accept on the fist-pumping and anthemic Fake It Till You Make It and Calm Down Before the Storm, both of which are over-blown musical epics condensed down into a five minute segments.
Each track is built on a solid rhythm foundation and catchy riffs with the occasional blistering solo to boot, and all being custom-made to get feet a-tappin’ and heads a-noddin’. Graveyard Shifters deliver on their manifesto in spades and Head Turns First, Eyes Follow is a hoot of a record that deserves some serious playing.
Hopefully, this release will signify a long-overdue follow-up to debut full-length High Heels and Broken Bones which sees its sixth year without a sequel. If this E.P. is anything to go by, that record will be a monumental shindig.
