DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Urania Fantasia

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Urania Fantasia

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Urania Fantasia sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Pete: Ooo this is a tough one!! I think it would change regularly but at the moment I would say Two Steps From Hell - Myth.

William: I would take the complete Beethoven Symphonies, there's a version I particularly like with Bernard Haitink conducting the London Symphony Orchestra called Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 1-9. It also features the Leonore Overture & his Triple Concerto. If there can be only one album, better to choose one with a lot of bang for your buck! Haha.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Pete: Epica - The Quantum Enigma. It’s such beautiful artwork and it makes me question existence…something I’d definitely be doing stranded on an island 😅

William: I think for a similar reason I'd take Lateralus by TOOL. Especially if it could have all those cool holographic effects to it that they have with the albums! Alex Grey is a wonderful artist.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Pete: Slippery Nipple!

William: Haha water! Boring answer, I know, but I don't drink alcohol and it'd be pretty essential to survive!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Pete: I've got a Within Temptation vest somewhere, best take that instead of the hoodies!

William: I'd have to go with my Opeth T-shirt. Love the band and love their merch designs!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Pete: Tom Hanks… I’d want someone who can find me a way out of there.

William: Haha good call! I'd say my family, but I like Pete's answer better 😆

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Pete: End Of An Era - Nightwish.

William: That's a great show! I'd go with Toward the Within by Dead Can Dance.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Pete: I feel any member of Visions Of Atlantis would be able to commandeer a pirate boat to come and rescue me, plus the shanty’s on the way home would be fun.

William: Haha can't argue with Pete's logic there!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Pete: Ahaha - William, it looks like it’s going to be you! 😂. Sorry man, we haven’t got much choice!

William: Haha! Perhaps we can trade limbs, Pete can give up an arm and I'll give a leg... At least that way we can still make music!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Pete: Tarja Turunen. Without her I don’t think I would be singing this style in metal today.

William: I'll go with David Bowie. Innovative, shape-shifting, genre bending. He blended many aspects of art, performance & pop culture into one. Certainly a big influence!
