EP Review: Penny Coffin - Conscripted Morality
Reviewed by Rick Eaglestone
The Scottish/Greek horse drawn carriage of carnage once again makes its presence felt as Penny Coffin return with their daunting new EP ‘Conscripted Morality.’
The EP start of very strongly with a luring mystic vibe which quickly manifests into barbaric blast beats and Nile undertones and subtle Akercocke nods combined with that familiar guttural gnarling but then then the track is called 'Ballistic' but then 'Predator' switches the mood into more of a 90’s feel but maintaining the level of intensity of the previous track.
Another directional twist, slight industrial tones with full on OSDM is just what the doctor ordered 'Slowdive' undeniably highlight of the EP showing how much the band have progressed incorporated larger soundscapes from earlier releases.
Concluding with title track 'Conscripted Morality' Penny Coffin once again confirm something that I have known for a while now, which is this band are out to conquer and eviscerate, with this EP I guarantee a lot more people will find this out too.
