Bloodstock Bound: Drownd
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Drownd!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Drownd: I am Joe Crudgington, we are DROWND and the band consists of me (Joe) fronting it up, Paul Traveller on drums, Rich Watson on guitar and backing vocals and last but by no means least, my man Sam Forrester on bass and synth duties. For the Bloodstock gig there will also be a couple of ‘guest’ members performing and adding live electronics.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Drownd: Good question and one without a decent answer - we have elements of metal for sure, our tracks are heavy but there’s plenty of electronics and dynamic in there to make us stand out a bit - that could be a good or bad thing, we’ll let the punters decide haha!
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Drownd: We managed to secure the BOA slot by winning the M2TM’s at the Craufurd Arms in Milton Keynes - we initially applied just to get a slot at the venue for a gig as it’s a wicked venue to play, but luckily we progressed through and won.
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Drownd: Ah man, difficult one to answer - I mean, nothing’s a dead cert because some of the bands we played with were absolutely stellar and total respect to all the bands involved. Luckily us lot just seemed in the right frame of mind, worked hard and it panned out for us. Just wanna stick a shout out to the gang at The Craufurd Arms - can’t meet a better, more helpful and music loving gang of people - these are the sort of people that keeps live music going.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Drownd: As ‘DROWND’ this is one of the biggest things we’ve done and we’ve made it there by fighting through the M2TM’s so we’re all mad psyched. Plus obviously BOA is a fantastic festival - great line up, great vibe, great people. Yeah, we can’t wait.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Drownd: Haha… We’ve got a pretty savage live performance planned involving weird extras, bodybags, plenty of liquid latex, self-indulgence and destruction. New set list, new tracks - it’s gonna be brutal, I mean, we’ve gotta make the most of this opportunity, right…?
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Drownd: Saturday August 12th
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Drownd: 100% Skynd - been a fan and a part of their ‘movement’ since the start - absolutely phenomenal band with a great concept, sound, look, etc, etc… Our friends in Tribe of Ghosts who open up the festival on the Thursday too. Also - Knocked Loose - been a fan for yonks but never had the chance to see them, so looking forward to that. Ah man, Meshuggah, Killswitch - I can go on and on haha!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Drownd: Yeah for sure this opportunity has given us a ton of credibility and we’re already getting loads of gig offers, promoters wanting to book us so yeah, we’ll see - plenty on the horizon.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Drownd: We’re lucky enough as a band to be in the Serpents Lair VIP but that’s more so that we can take full advantage of the press on the day of our performance but trust me, we’ll be out with the fans as that is where the best times are always had.
The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?
Drownd:Water and anything with alcohol in it for me. Rich will take a tactically timed red wine pre-show, Sam, JD and coke, Paul, juicy beer and the performers in the band will usually take half a pint of petrol to get in the mood.
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
Drownd: You bet your arse you will. Thank you for your time with us, much appreciated.
