DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Shred Rogers

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Shred Rogers

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Shred Rogers sat on the beach. The island is far from his home, so how did he end up here and how did he cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

I am the sole member of “Shred Rogers” and was on my way to Europe to meet my live band members for the first time and got marooned on Devil’s Island all by my lonesome. While I am feeling pretty scared at first, I am thankful the one album I chose that I couldn’t live without is “Scenes From A Memory” by Dream Theater. I love the variety of music on this record and the really cool murder mystery story that involves the idea of reincarnation. My hope is that if I die on this island, I’ll be reincarnated maybe into a cool Metal Whale and swim away and live and love the ocean!

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

I’d place a poster of Metallica’s self-titled Black album because if it wasn’t for discovering music with that album, I wouldn’t have gone on my journey of metal music discovery nor becoming a musician.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Guinness all the way!

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

I was able to salvage my McFarlane Toys’ Gene Simmons Psycho Circus action figure. It ROCKS and reminds me that if Gene Simmons can accomplish all he has, I can eventually get off this island and back to Europe to rehearse with my new band mates!

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

My wife and children.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

“Live in Japan” by the band Vader. I love that live album and it always gets my blood pumping. Gotta have inspiration to hunt and survive on this island!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

I’d write a message to Devin Townsend because he’s not only AMAZING but I think he’d find a way to rescue me. Good juju seems to follow Mr. Townsend everywhere… plus maybe I could encourage him to guest star on a future Shred Rogers track!

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Since I’m the only person here, I am unwilling to sacrifice myself. I’ll just need to continue learning to fish for more food in the ocean

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Devin Townsend

Thanks for your time. We hope you get back to dry land before you're next due out on tour!
