DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Mercer

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Mercer

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Mercer sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Te: Queen’s Greatest Hits part 2. I couldn’t live without a bit of Freddie!

Adam: ‘Rated R’ by Queens of the Stone Age. It’s my favourite band and that’s their best work.

Gabe: I am incredibly attached to AM, by Arctic Monkeys. I don’t think I could let it go.

Kian: Led Zeppelin I, it’s just the best album to ever exist.

Sand: My Chemical Romance’s ‘The Black Parade’. That album is my entire childhood, there's not a single stinker on the whole album.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Te: The soundtrack for ‘Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny’, Something about Jack Black just always manages to cheer my up.

Gabe: ‘Era Vulgaris’, Queens of the Stone Age. I had the poster in my room for ages, and something feels wrong now that It’s not there anymore

Ad: The Death of Me, by Polaris. No significant reason, the art is just really cool!

Kian: Led Zeppelin I, again. I may be obsessed.

Sand: Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’. It’s just iconic, isn’t it? Simple yet beautiful.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Te: I’m a man of class, get me a nice cocktail! A purple rain sounds great right now.

Adam: Southern Comfort and Coke please drive!

Gabe: Rum and Coke, I'm a simple man.

Kian: If you asked me a month ago I would’ve said Kopparberg, but I've become more of a whiskey drinker these days.

Sand: Any premium lager, Asahi if you got it, just make sure its not Carling.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Adam: Probably my favourite T-shirt, from We The Sun.

Gabe: The KISS Coffin!

Te: Speaking of KISS, there’s gotta be a practical use for the KISS condoms right?

Sand: I'm going for practicality, and I'm taking the Weezer snuggie. I need something to keep me cosy at night!

Kian: My Mother Vulture T- Shirt! I really like the design and its so comfortable.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Sand: Literally anyone else? Bear Grylls would be a good pick, he’d get us both off the island in no time.

Kian: Rishi Sunak and Kier Starmer. Make ‘em fight to the death!

Gabe: Jonah Hill, Terry Crews and Flea. Do not ask why.

Adam: Same answer, again, it's best you don’t ask what we’re doing here.

Te: I'm just bringing Ozzy with me, that would be a laugh, right?

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Mercer

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Te: Yungblud, 2023 in Cardiff. I loved that show so much.

Adam:( Can we burn other people’s possessions? ^^)

Nile Rogers and Chic, Kendal Calling 2019. I’m currently learning the entire set from that show, so I can get some practice in!

Kian: I wasn’t there, but Deep Purple, California Jam, 1974. The best live performance I’ve ever seen footage of. It’s great.

Gabe: Kyuss Generator Sessions. There’s no recordings of it, so if I had one, I could sell of for thousands.

Sand: Not to be overly sentimental, but it would be nice to have a live recording of our first show, just to see how much better we’ve got since our first gig!

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Adam: Taylor Swift flies everywhere, she could definitely add a detour to her route!

Kian: Jason Momoa has to be in a band, right? I want Aquaman to come save me!

Sand: I reckon I could attach a photo of myself and convince Ozzy Osbourne that he’s stuck on the island. He should have me out in no time!

Gabe: I reckon if I smoked enough cigarettes Keith Richards would find me eventually and ask to borrow one.

Te: Benji Webb, he’s a fellow welsh lad, I reckon he’d help us out.

You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Everyone except Sand (In Unison): Immediately points at Sand

Sand: There’s no point arguing this one is there. It’s been a good one, boys.

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Kian: I would say Bonham, but he’d probably be quite difficult to save, on account of him being dead. I’ll go for Roger Taylor.

Gabe: Josh Homme, the reason I started taking music seriously!

Sand: It’s gonna have to be Dave Grohl. Nirvana was the reason I picked up an instrument and the Foo Fighters is the reason I started learning other instruments.

Adam: Matt Heafy, his playing fundamentally changed how I approach my guitar.

Te: I’d say Benji Webb, as a black Welsh musician, you end up being pretty unique. It was nice to see another one make it!
