DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Reaven
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Reaven sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
I would take the White Album from The Beatles. I’ve been growing with this album. A masterpiece. My drummer (Vince) would take the album “War” from U2! For my bassist and keyboards player, it would be something that grooves a lot ahah A funky album for sure… I will ask them if they survived the shipwreck!
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
I really like the “Sleeping With Ghosts” (Placebo) album cover. There is something very artistic about it. And a beautiful way of showing bodies and movement. Vince would choose “Dark Side of the Moon” (Pink Floyd), he was very intrigued by this cover when he was young. And unfortunately our 2 other members didn’t make it to the island… 🙁
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
CHAMPAGNE for Vince and I. Half of the band comes from the region where Champagne is made actually. Kind of our local water! ahah For Rudy (Bassist of the band) I would say beers! And for François (keyboards player of Reaven), I would say Rhum
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
I would keep the T-shirt when we played under our previous name “The Distroy” in a festival in Sardinia. With so many lovely bands, we spent one week there all the bands living in the same place (30 people). It was amazing. Great memories. For Vince, it would be an Aerosmith’s cap, to be protected from the sun!
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
No one else. I am sure we will find some wood, and items to create our own instruments and rock the island for eternity.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
I think it would the Paul McCartney Live in Bercy, 2003 (France). I was there. It was epic. For Vince, it is the Phil Collins “Finally: The First Farewell Tour “(Live 2004). He always been impressed by this show and the performance.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
I would surely send a message to Weezer’s band members that “I have found the island in the sun, you’re kindly invited to come, the island location is “let’s party” West, and “we will sleep later” South”. Vince will send Dave Grohl this message: “Don’t rescue me, but come here on the island, I have cold champagne!!
You've been stuck here a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
As the leader of the band, I think I would get sacrificed to help my fellow band members.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
I would save Paul McCartney. He influenced me so much in my music conception. I’d love to play and sing “Blackbird” with him on the island… Vince would save “Hans Zimmer”, he’s deeply influenced by his music work.
Thanks for your time. We hope you get back to dry land before you're next due out on tour!
Thanks guys! Next time, come with us on the island and have some fun together! Cheers!
