DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Neverskin

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Neverskin

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil’s Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It’s not your average desert island and we’ll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil’s Island we find Neverskin sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil’s Island?

Find out now…

Welcome to The Razors’e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don’t worry about it’s name I’m sure it’s not as bad as that would suggest.

So, if I read this correctly, we are both marooned here together? 🙂 Well, happy to have some company then. Nice to meet you, I am Clint, singer of the band Neverskin! Thankfully the ship went down slowly so I could think about what to take, and although there are so many great bands I could have grabbed, I decided to grab the greatest hits from Bob Marley. I think I will need some positive vibes to get through the whole “stranded on a deserted island” thing, so I grabbed some happy tunes.

Good question. I think I would go for something that reminds me of creativity, but also of life back home. It needs to give off some sort of hope or calmness. I think I will go for the cover of Linkin Park’s Meteora. I’m intrigued by the artistry and the color scheme of the image, and the music, to me, was also fairly evolutionary for the band itself.

Man, there’s a big difference between the “creative party” response and the “I want to survive this situation” response!

Survivor Clint would choose water. Staying hydrated and avoiding the dehydration that comes with alcohol seems like the wisest, and admittedly most boring, choice. But Party Clint would definitely go for a blond or a wheat beer, like a Hoegaarden, Wieckse Witte, or something similar. You gotta keep the spirits up somehow, right?

Seeing as I no longer have any band merch, I veto your question and will answer it as follows: I would definitely save my new GameKings 25th anniversary hoodie. It’s super comfy and rare, so that’s the one I’m saving.

My wife. I need someone to annoy me and tell me off, just to keep me grounded. Plus, she’s the best cook, so that would have some major advantages, and get your minds out of the gutter, guys, come on! 😛

A live concert I was at when they played the Melkweg, Amsterdam, when I was a teenager: Taproot. Apart from the fact that I really like their music, that live show holds core memories for me, for us. Seeing Stephen Richards rock out, jumping off the stage and the balcony, was legendary. Plus, the fact that I was actually there gives it extra weight in my memories and my connection to the music.

I guess I would send a message in a bottle to The Police. If you don’t know why, then the joke was either bad, or I’m just getting too old!

Pfff, easy: any of them, as long as it isn’t me! 😛 On the other hand, Remy is a bit small, so I don’t know how long that would sustain me—it’s a tricky dilemma. Also, it’s quite interesting that there’s a bar on this island. If there’s a bartender, he’s definitely the first to go. Sorry, mate…

For me personally, I would have saved Daniel Johns, formerly of Silverchair. The music they made, and his vocals in particular, inspired me to start singing and showed me exactly what I wanted to convey through my voice: raw emotion combined with creativity. I never tried to be him or sing exactly like him (that’s impossible anyway!), but he helped me find my own voice and my own path.

I think we’ll be fine. If not, remember us for our music and our absolute sarcastic, dark humor!

If you do decide to mourn us properly and honor us by listening to and spreading our tunes, here’s where you’ll find them: https://linktr.ee/neverskin
