Album Review: Une Misère - Sermon
Reviewed by Carl Black

Une Misère are a shot in the arm for our music. They have come out of nowhere and are causing big waves. They bring a fresh approach to a already crowded scene but stand out from the crowd for all the good reasons.

On new album 'Sermon' songs come thick and fast and they have an arsenal of riffs. They never seem to Settle on one Riff for very often. They seem to get too excited and are desperate to get the next one out for the listener to hear as quick as possible.

There's nothing new in the songs presented in this album. There is nothing particularly original about the delivery or the style songs. They are however fresh as daisy and clear as bell. This band obviously have a huge amount of enthusiasm and the songs and the production is both precise and organic. The original aspect they do have is that most bands who play this type of brutal, pounding blast beat, Will Haven/Ingested type metal, us they play fast, with the occasional slow riff in each song to break up the tempo. Une Misére do it the other way round, they play mid speed / slow riffs and then break up this tempo with a fast or extreme metal section, blast beats and all. This works well throughout the album.

Album Review: Une Misère – Sermon

Une Misère play with such confidence it reassures the listener that you are in safe hands. The songs are interesting and original with enough separation on all of the songs to know when one track ends and another begins, which cannot always be said from their contemporaries.

In this particular genre of music, Une Misère's future seems bright, and they deserve the high-level of praise they are currently getting. We should see a lot more of this band in the coming years as long as they keep producing music of this quality and retain their authenticity, I see no reason why they can't be a driving force in our ever changing world of metal.

Une Misère released 'Sermon' on November 1st via Nuclear Blast.
