Album Review: War After War - No Change

War After War have an interesting mantra, one that will resonate with many music fans, generally pissed off with the state of society in 2020. Society is on the verge of collapse, platforms like Facebook and Twitter have given the moronic element of the public a voice, a platform on which to spout their ill-educated views onto the world. People fight over bog roll in supermarkets or queue for hours, blocking roads, just to get their hands on a Big Mac. This is the state of the world in 2020 and War After War are providing the perfect anti-dote, the soundtrack to our year in the form of new E.P. ‘No Change’.
Spanning just thirteen minutes, this short sharp shock to the system delivers face melting aggression and hard hitting lyrical content in one small yet perfectly shaped package. From the opening riff’s of ‘Burned’ you know exactly what you are getting… fast paced hardcore action. Drawing from inspirational artists like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front and even a little Stampin’ Ground, the bands simple, but effective guitar-man-ship drives home their message as Corky’s gruff yet direct vocals steer this fast moving ship.
Even when they slow the pace of their delivery down in ‘Same Mistakes’ and ‘Ignorance’ there is never a sense that the aggression or the message being delivered is watered down. In fact, these brief moments give the listener chance to catch their breath between the barrages of musical violence.
All too soon, a mere thirteen minutes after starting, it's all over. But put it on repeat and you’ll be all set for weeks to come. What War After War have done with this all too brief release is slap the listener in the face, wake them up to the world at large and allow them to expand their minds with a thought provoking, hard hitting slab of hardcore action. Hopefully ‘No Action’ is just the start, as it leaves us wanting so much more!
'No Change' is release by APF Records on June 12th
