DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Lucifour M.
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found Lucifour M sat on the beach. Whilst we'd not seen them in the flesh for a while we assumed this was due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Turn's out they were actually stranded on our island.
How did the band cope with life on Devil's Island? Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Those of the devil's island, and our name, Lucifour M, is because we were born on that island... they know entropy. Something always breaks on a journey and this is why a musician from the island makes a record, and compose endlessly. He does this to leave a fragment of life on the island. Which are always searches for fragments that have hit you during journeys. We learn that from Stevie Wonder, "Songs in the key of life". When you have a key there is a door. Music prepares you for disaster. We have a myth here, Orfeo, which is one of the few myths that are still preserved here on the island of the devil. He show a lot of things to learn about all of these things.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Pacific by Haruomi Hosono, because the cover, as his music, calms and hypnotizes. Perfect for sleeping and dreaming.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Water to survive and MD to fall in love!
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?
Maybe we would start to wonder if all of these aren't signs of ending LOL But just in case: Rina Sawayama's shirt. Gorgeous.
You're sat on the island thinking "I'm stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity"... who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
The Russian artist Vitas, hoping he is singing the 7th Element refrain
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Puma Blue or Paul Simon (Graceland wt Ladysmith Black Mambazo)
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
I think we'll all kill ourselves to survive this kind of survival
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
I hardly listen to him anymore and it's an irrational answer: Kim Hiorthøy
Sadly we must go now and there is no room in our boat to bring you home. We hope you survive this ordeal!
We hope, one day, to introduce you to the other side of Devil’s Island, where even the night lights up and the inventors survive, enjoying it 🙂 Amor fati!
