Album Review: Böndbreakr - Böndbreakr

Bondbreakr’s debut self-titled EP was recorded live over the space of one weekend and sees the Texan quartet throwing the kitchen sink into the mix and coming out with some fairly interesting results.
Into the Night is a short sharp shock of a track, less than a minute in length, but built against a simple punk rhythm. Cop Rock, though little more than twice the running time, is a conversation between US punk and a Crossover act. Imagine The Runaways collaborating with Municipal Waste and you’re somewhere in the vicinity.
There’s a definite Alternative vibe to Angry Tooth and what feels very much like an extension to that track in Kill Your Gods. Both are filled with punchy, punked-up, galloping lines and the latter also contains a jazzy guitar solo. Kill Your Gods, more than any other track on the Bondbreakr is a mass of ideas fighting with each other and rather than turning into one big mess, there’s a cohesion to the chaos.
If you include the brief interlude that is Shaman, Bondbreakr (the EP) clocks in at about nine minutes so Bondbreakr (the band) supplement the running time by taking all five tracks and creating one nine-minute epic called The Whole Fekkin’ Thing which is exactly what it is.
Having formed in 2018 Bondbreakr show some real promise on this EP and it will be interesting to see where they go and which influences will come to dominate their sound.
