DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Emerra

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Emerra

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found German outfit Emerra sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, but how did they end up on here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

Fabian: Hey, thanks for having us stranded!

So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Fabian: I personally would grab Alien by Northlane, since that album is the first time in years, that I have not heard that soundscape ever before in metal music.
Max: I choose Sound Awake by Karnivool.
Stefan: I grab Audioslave’s selftitled album.
Timo: My choice would be Make Yourself by Incubus.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Fabian: For me, that would be Awakened by As I Lay Dying. I love the color scheme.
Max: Koloss by Meshuggah.
Stefan: Audioslave again!
Timo: I like Constellations by August Burns Red.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to chose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Fabian: I would just drink plain water, or some kind of tea.
Max: I'm enjoying a Pina Colada.
Stefan: Milk for me.
Timo: Budweiser.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. Whats the merch and for what band?

Fabian: I love my Backstreet Boys Cap.
Max: I managed to salvage a Tesseract T-Shirt.
Stefan: I took a shirt by Ashes Of Pompeii.
Timo: My limited edition Lost Forever // Lost Together Architects Vinyl. We could play frisbee with it on the beach.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Fabian: I would pick Morgan Freeman for obvious reasons.
Max: I would love to go with Les Stroud.
Stefan: I'm a smartass and want to take a 145 Geco Freeride, 5,5m^2 - 8.5m^2 Gunsails, 430 - 460 mast with 70% Carbon and some stuff that I don’t understand from my notes here. Really, I want the parts to build another boat.
Timo: I want to take my wife. I'm a romantic.

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Fabian: I’ve been to many shows, but the latest one that blew my mind was again the Alien Tour by Northlane. That has left me speechless.
Max: I go the hardcore route and chooses Mad Dog live at Dominator 2018.
Stefan: I choose a German comedian called Helge Schneider live in Philharmonie Essen.
Timo: The 36 Crazyfists Show at Underground Cologne 2008.

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Fabian: Timo obviously gets sacrificed, since he’s the oldest. Isn’t that a thing?

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Fabian: For me that would be Johnny Hawkins from Nothing More.
Max: Robert Searight from Snarky Puppy.
Fabian: The others seem to be selfish and don’t want to save anybody.  Stefan sailed away with the ship he built, and Timo already got sacrificed. I guess we’re good.
