DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Slave Steel
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we found Slave Steel sat on the beach. The island is far from their London base, but how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Pil: I chose 'No More Tears', Ozzy Osbourne, because it's the most energising album I know and I would need a lot of its fuel to survive!
Daniele: I took with me 'Powerslave', Iron Maiden since I don't even need to eat if I listen to that!!
Marco: I will definitely pick 'The Dark Side'.Helloween as it would trigger my “survival mode “ in no time!
Riccardo: l grabbed the album 'Nerve' by the namesake band, it sets the right mood anytime, anywhere.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Pil: I would put on'jar of Flies', Alice in Chains so ,even if in a desert Island I would still feel less sad compared to that kid...
Daniele: I'd hang up 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', Pink Floyd to get hypnotized in most lonely and sleepless nights!
Marco: I would stick 'Clayman', In Flames right next to me, so that I would “Feel so invincible!!” just by looking at it.
Riccardo: I would choose 'The Satanist' by Behemoth, I have one in my bedroom so it would look like home.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Pil: Old Fashioned... That's strong enough to keep me boozed up all day and all night... but with class!
Daniele: Mojito of course. Hey, it would be appropriate for the landscape... with a little paper umbrella on the glass please!
Marco: Obviously espresso macchiato soya, not too foamy not too watery, thanks!
Riccardo: Negroni, for the dark hours...i guess i could always wash it down with fresh coconut water straight from the palm trees
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Pil: We sell very efficient Slave Steel lighters, I would save at least one of those for get some fire.
Daniele: A Metallica cap to keep my metal-head in shade.
Marco: I always had the feeling that wearing a T-shirt with a giant Bad Religion logo in front, is somehow therapeutic.
Riccardo: It would be a Death logo t-shirt, it just feels appropriate
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Pil: Chuck Noland obviously, He would know a thing or two about how to survive... WILSOOOOOON!!
Daniele: Albert Einstein, so he cant tell me about his theories more in detail.
Marco: Clearly Seth Rogen.. do I really have to explain why?
Riccardo: Nobody else, I'll much rather to die alone
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Pil: What else can it be if not Live in Moscow '91? Pantera, Metallica, ACDC... I'd catch 2 or 3 birds with 1 stone! And that would make a tasty desert island Sunday roast by the way! Hehehehehe
Daniele: I will share Marco's one whatever he chooses. We are the ones 'pulling the strings' and we shall connect!
Marco: Live After Death from Iron Maiden so that me and Daniele can sing along, for hours and hours as we already do while on the road!
Riccardo: Deep Purple Made In Japan just the best recorded live show ever
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Zakk Wylde, we know for a fact he's a super hero. Worst case scenario he may come with the US navy!!!
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Marco, no doubt!! He's the tallest, the biggest, the most relaxed...loads of tender meat in one single body. We would bin the hair though.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Pil: Dimebag Darrel: original, monstrously talented, heavy metal to the bone, super-funny. No one deserves more than him!
Daniele: Steve Harris. This name doesn't need any further explanation.
Marco: Freddie Mercury! Who else?!?!
Riccardo: Dave Lombardo, true inspiration in both music and life
