DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Ophelia's Eye
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Ophelia's Eye sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
So you're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Corinne: Phew, a hard question since I would be stuck with this album… But I would go for 'Trauma' from I Prevail since this is an album I can listen up and down.
Marco: Slipknot - 'We Are Not Your Kind' since it’s just awesome!
Michel: 'Missundaztood' from Pink because she is just an awesome woman and this album has a bit of everything – from joy to sadness.
Remo: 'Will to Power' from Arch Enemy, because it simply contains awesome guitar riffs.
Sandro: 'The Silver Scream' from Ice Nine Kills because it's versatile and currently one of my favourite bands.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Corinne: I would chose the album cover from Dark Tranquility’s album 'Atoma' – It’s not only one of my favorite albums of DT but the cover also is really aesthetic.
Marco: 'Wishmaster' from Nightwish
Michel: Limp Bizkit – 'Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water'. This poster brought me from rock to nu-metal and harder stuff in style. A very incisive part of my life in terms of music.
Remo: 'Where the Dead Ships Dwell' by In Flames. The cover motivates me and lets me hope for a ray of hope on the island. It could have been worse... 😊
Sandro: Again 'The Silver Scream' from Ice Nine Kills. This is the most listened album on my side and you can see that you could be in worse places with worse people.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Corinne: Water came to my mind first since you just need water to survive, but since I could probably take sea water and cook it before drinking, I’d chose Moijto.
Marco: Beer of course
Michel: Cuba Libre
Sandro: Rum and Coke. I steal the beer from Michel when he's drunk and dozes off.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Corinne: For no specific band but my first Summer Breeze shirt from 2013. I fell in love with this festival ever since and always get good memories when I put this shirt on.
Marco: My shorts from Eskimo Callboy
Michel: The swimming trunks of Whitechapel
Remo: Comfortable pants with the logo from Parkway Drive
Sandro: Our special shirt from the upcoming music video
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Corinne: As much as I love you boys, but I wouldn’t want to be stuck on an island without my husband
Marco: My bandmates are fine, but my girlfriend should be here as well
Michel: With Chloë Grace Moretz popular from movies as “Kick Ass” or “Let Me In”
Remo: With my sweetheart of course… 😊
Sandro: With my girlfriend (sorry guys, I have to say that otherwise I have a problem 😜)
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Corinne: Beast in Black at Summer Breeze 2019 – they just know how to make metal music that puts you in a good and party mood, which probably helps when you’re stuck on an island.
Marco: Feuerengel at Z7
Michel: Metallica’s 'Nothing Else Matters' concert
Remo: Arch Enemy at Greenfield Festival 2018
Sandro: Mötley Crüe at Whisky a Go Go 1982. To have been there once in this time would certainly not be wrong. Would certainly have made more fun than to sit here fixed and there would certainly have been a larger selection of drinks as on this island. And I would have been allowed to wear leggings 🙂
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Corinne: Christopher Bowes from Alestorm – as a pirate who drinks rum I’m sure he would be baited by the bottle, read our message and would pick us up with a pirate ship.
Marco: My friend Badi from Mabon
Michel: Frankie Palmeri from Emmure
Remo: Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. He can then pick us up right away with his Boeing 747!
Sandro: Let's stay with Mötley Crüe. My bassist buddy Nikki Sixx has survived so much, he'll be able to do something like that easily.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Corinne: It must be someone we can feed on for quite a while, therefore I’d need to sacrifice Remo or Sandro. But since a guitarist can be replaced easier as a bass player, I’d chose Remo. 😉
Marco: I couldn’t choose
Michel: I would cut off a little bit from all of them. From Corinne and Remo the left hand, from Marco both legs and from Sandro everything except the head, so that I can still toast with him. The rest I would sew together.
Remo: Marco of course 🙂 There is a juicy piece of meat out for everyone out of him. Michel is there for dessert 😉
Sandro: Basically Remo. He is the biggest and widest (next to me😘). Only then he will probably sacrifice all of us together... A little risk must be, probably.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Corinne: This would need to be my former oboe teacher Louise Pellerin – she taught me how to work hard, practice properly but also shaped me a lot as a person since she accompanied me for a long time on my musical journey. Her passion for music has also always impressed me very much.
Marco: Joey Jordison
Michel: My stitched together hybrid, as this could play guitar, drums and bass
Remo: Jeff Loomis from Arch Enemy
Sandro: César Gonin (Breakdown of Sanity). As my bass teacher, he shaped my start and playing style as a bass player, and the thinking of what a band should be like the most.
