Bloodstock 2022: Introducing - Acid Throne
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Chris, drummer of Acid Throne!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Chris: Hello! I'm the drummer, Chris. We have Craig on guitar, Matt on bass and Kemp on guitar/vocals.
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Chris: Broadly speaking, we're a stoner/doom band, but we all spent our youth playing in punk rock and hardcore bands, so I wouldn't call us heavy-metal purists by any means. We pull influences everywhere we can, from classic rock to black metal, some of that definitely filters through to our sound.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Chris: We played our first ever gig at the end of March 2022 in the first round of this year's Metal to the Masses competition in Norwich. We hadn't released our demo at that point and it was the only show we could get without a promoter having heard us first. Much to our surprise, we got through the first round, and then worked our way through to the final, scooping the prize of a spot on the Bloodstock bill at the end of June!
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Chris: The competition was tough! There was a wealth of local bands in the running and all of them had a loyal fanbase showing up to attend their gigs. Huge thanks to everyone that came out to support us!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Chris: In all honesty, we're still stunned to have won the competition and enormously grateful to have been plucked from the crowd to play alongside some incredible bands. All of us have been making music since we were teenagers and it's safe to say that this is a career highlight for each one of us!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Chris: Our live show's a total riff-fest. Expect to have your ear drums thumped by loud, heavy, doom. It's the soundtrack to the smoke-filled end of the world. If you like to bang your head, you’ll dig our set.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Chris: We're playing the Jägermeister stage on Sunday, August 14th.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Chris: Aside from the big-hitters on the main stage, we're stoked to catch up with Inhuman Nature again. We had the privilege of supporting them on their recent UK tour with Sadistic Force and they put on a hell-raising live show. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't before!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the Jägermeister Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Chris: Well, after a busy few months of playing shows and getting reacquainted with life on the road, we've decided to spend the autumn and winter in the studio, with a view to recording again early next year. The writing process has already begun in earnest and we're already pumped to get some new tunes down on tape and out into the world!
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
Chris: Can't wait for it - hail Satan!
