DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Karman Line
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Karman Line sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Frank: Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
There are many great records that I’d consider “my school”, but this one in particular never loses a touch of its potency; the lyrics, the riffs, the whole sound is just a timeless epic.
Danny: Rage Against the Machine - self titled
For nostalgia reasons, every song hits hard plus it would get me pumped to go out hunting or whatever is needed!
Peter: ZZ TOP - FIRST ALBUM.
This album brings back old memories of the first time I listened to a record player as a child. Their first album is a masterpiece that further defines the flow of the band, and also reminds me of their southern-bluesy humor which we all know.
Tristan: LED ZEPPELIN 3
It has all the ingredients an album need , acoustic and electric materials and I feel this album always talks to me in a special way
Greg: Aha Shake Heartbreak - Kings of Leon
I just love the writing, the attitude and the lyrics. Though, i’m sure i’d get sick of it after a few listens and have to borrow some of what the other guys brought. With RATM, Sabbath and ZZ Top, I think we could have a pretty mean rotation.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Frank: The Who - Who’s Next
I’d imagine this one will lighten up the mood and remind me to keep hydrated.
Danny: A Pretty Reckless poster would do me pretty good I reckon
Peter: Well, at first I thought it could be some hot chick as an album cover, but since I can't find any, and frankly I want to stay alive because there is a possibility that my wife is reading this, I'll go with LED ZEPPELIN - MOTHERSHIP, an absolute compilation package accompanied by legendary arwork which can bring any shack to the point of admiration.
Tristan: Not a album cover but the poster of a song from the Monty python , always look on the bright side of life
Greg: Pink Floyd - Atom Heart Mother
It’d remind us of what to hunt for to stay alive.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Frank: We’ve been shipwrecked so, beer? I mean beer is mostly water, right?
Danny: Some super fruity cocktail because I know the rest of the guys are going to choose beer and whisky
Peter: Asahi - Super dry beer, known for its cooling and beautifying properties.
Tristan: Definitely coca cola!
Greg: Piña Coladas. All day. Every day.
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Frank: My ‘Grateful Dead’ coffee mug; should come in handy.
Danny: Ah it would be the full size signed dingy lamb of god sell at their shows. Pretty helpful that one.
Peter: Nickelback socks, to protect me from the evil spirits of the island. Yes, there are Nickelback socks for only $23.87 CAD. Terms and conditions apply.
Tristan: Rammstein box set , super useful !
Greg: GWAR BBQ sauce. Even if I have to put it on a coconut.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Frank: Obviously, Sir David Attenborough.
Danny: Emily Ratajkowski- no more questions
Peter: Whole crew of Steel Panther. I have some questions for those guys…
Tristan: My dog, Gizmo
Greg: My dog, Sasha.
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Frank: Radiohead - Live From The Basement 2008, just off the top of my head.
Peter: Mr Big - Live at Budokan Tokyo. One of the most legendary bass solos played by Billy Sheehan, as people say, Eddie Van Halen of bass guitar.
Tristan: Led zeppelin , the song remains the same
Greg: AC.DC Live at Donington 92’. One hell of a set.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Frank: I’d message Sting for obvious reasons. He’s been there, he’d know what to do.
Danny: Josh Homme I’m convinced that man could swim us to the next shore on his back
Peter: Ozzy f****** Osbourne. I would pay big money to see that rescue.
Tristan: Obviously Guns n Roses. Slash can walk on water water and Axl Rose talks to dolphins, the rate of making it out alive are quite high with these conditions
Greg: Any one of The Beach Boys, I think they’d be able to help make the best of the situation. Who needs rescuing?- We’ve got Piña Coladas and Emily Ratajkowski (thanks Danny).
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Frank: Would aim for Peter, he’s been looking at Danny weird plus he probably is the healthiest out of us.
Danny: I would go for Tristan I think we would all get some trippy experience after eating whatever he’s really made of
Peter: Danny. We dont need a drummer for acoustic band hehe 😜 Or might be Greg, hmmm… We could go fully instrumental 🤔
Tristan: I would sacrifice myself for the band ! Lots of bones tho … sorry guys
Greg: Tristan is the tallest. We could probably survive off him for weeks and use his hair to make fire.
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Frank: Shakira
Peter: Ed Friedland. He is the author of numerous bass instructional methods, and has been a long-time industry influencer as "The Bass Whisperer. He was my bass teacher that I have never met.
Tristan: Slash, so he can teach me how to walk on the water
Greg: Mick Jagger
