Bloodstock Bound: Hidden Intent
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and Jägermeister stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Hidden Intent!
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Hidden Intent: G’Day! I’m Chris McThrashy and I play bass and sing in Aussie thrash band, Hidden Intent. We have Phil “Philbags” Bennett on guitar and Paul Lewis on drums. Drop Bears are real!
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your style of metal?
Hidden Intent: Fuelled by a firestorm of riffs, frenzied guitar solos, frenetic drumming, gritty vocals and all mashed in together with a solid slab of party – Aussie/Australiana thrash metal with a sense of humour! Another writer said we invented our own sub-genre called “pub thrash”!
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Hidden Intent: Our friends from down under, Mortal Sin played Bloodstock a while back and kindly shared a contact with us – from there a few clever emails and follow ups!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Hidden Intent: Bloodstock will be the second biggest metal festival we’ve played after doing Wacken the week before. This will be our first time in the UK so we are pumpt as fark to be playing a reputable festival like Bloodstock on this run!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Hidden Intent: A high energy show with lots of Australiana vibes! Lots of in-your-face guitar work - Think Slayer meets Airbourne with gritty Lemmy vocals.
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Hidden Intent: We’ll be thrashing/drinking the Jagermeister stage on Friday.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Hidden Intent: Megadeth, Sepultura, Helloween, Killswitch, In Flames, our tour pals Sacred Reich, I hear there is a rad Motorhead tribute playing as well (I play in one back home so I’m keen as to check em’ out!) - we’re going to try and catch as many acts as possible and make the most of it as it’s the last show of our 18 date tour.
The Razor's Edge: Playing the Jager Stage is just the first stepping stone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Hidden Intent: We hope playing the Jager stage will lead to more opportunities to play other rad big festivals like Hellfest, Download, Brutal Assault, Graspop etc. it might help us get on tour with a bigger act and get an ongoing booking agent would be sick too! You never know who is in the audience watching.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Hidden Intent: We are a dad thrash band so we will be staying at a motel close by to the festival – I would prefer to camp personally but we don’t have any camping gear with us! (How very un-Australian!)
The Razor's Edge: How many Jager shots will you be consuming over the weekend?
Hidden Intent: All of them but no shots for our guitarist please! We need him to shred and stuff.
The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!
Hidden Intent: Fark yeah see you soon and let’s do beer! #GetADogUpYa
