DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Keep This Up

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Keep This Up

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Keep This Up sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

JARED: Lost Forever//Lost Together - Architects

CHRIS: What Separates Me From You - A Day To Remember (one of my all-time favourite albums)

DAN: Atlas - Parkway Drive

JON: From Indian Lakes - Absent Sounds. Every track on that album is beautiful. It’s something I always go back to, from Breath, Desperately to Ghost, each track speaks to me.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

JARED: Royal Blood - Royal Blood (Absolutely love Dan Hillier’s art)

CHRIS: From Under The Cork Tree - Fall Out Boy (Because it’s iconic and such an incredible album)

DAN: Holy War - Thy Art Is Murder (Got the flag above my bed)

JON: The Night God Slept - Silent Planet, The image of the planet to remind me where I’m at.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

JARED: Water without a doubt

CHRIS: Apple Juice (just something I’ve always loved and I don’t really drink aha)

DAN: Monster Ultra

JON: Nice clean drinking water

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

JARED: Probably my All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us (Architects) T-shirt. Seems fitting for the occasion.

CHRIS: my Ice Nine Kills “Farewell II Flesh” hoodie

DAN: My Holy War SnapBack that I wear basically all the time

JON: I don’t really have much band merch, but to represent the local scene I woud say my Dead Frequency t-shirt

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

JARED: My partner, Zara

CHRIS: Bear Grylls

DAN: Jimmy Carr cause funny

JON: A 200 meter long super yacht

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Keep This Up

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

JARED: Architects Live From Abbey Road

CHRIS: My Chemical Romance @ MK on 21/05/2022

DAN: Architects @ Oxford 2021

JON: Stone Sour, live in Brighton (2012), my first ever big concert, seeing Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour in one venue really opened me up to heavy music

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

JARED: I’m with Chris on this one

CHRIS: Bruce Dickinson - He’s a pilot, has a plane and could easily rescue us all aha

DAN: James Hetfield as he could organise us their helicopter which is more practical on a small island that doesn’t have a runway

JON: Dave Grohl, I head he was pretty good with those Chilean miners

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

JARED: Myself, it seems like an easy out at this stage

CHRIS: Dan (sorry bud)

DAN: Chris (he’s horrid to me)

JON: …as the last one to answer, I guess I get to eat everyone?

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

JARED: Probably Rou Reynolds - Enter Shikari. Insanely intelligent musician but also was one of the first musicians I found challenging the norms in a lyrically clever way

CHRIS: Billie Joe Armstrong - Green Day was the reason I got into music and he has been a huge influence on my music writing & learning

DAN: Michael Thomas (Moose) - Ex Bullet For My Valentine. One of the first drummers I properly looked up to, I wouldn’t play the way I play today if it wasn’t for watching his live videos

JON: My friend Luke Choles, without him I never would've started playing

Thanks for your time. We hope you get back to dry land before you're next due out on tour!
