DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Nachtmuse

DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring Nachtmuse

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Nachtmuse sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Maude: One of my all time favorite albums is Midian by Cradle of Filth. It's one of the first metal albums I fell in love with and it's my favourite Cradle of Filth album, which is also one of my favorite bands.

Geoff: I'll bring Therion - Gothic Kabbalah. It is one of my favourite by this mightiest of bands and it's also a double album, so on a technicality I've managed to bring twice the music.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Maude: I do have a giant flag version of Midian behind me at this very moment, so I'd go with this one again

Geoff: I'm going to choose Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten. These Dan Seagrave cover arts are so rich with detail that you could stare at them for hours.

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Maude: Hard choice, but I think I'd go with cider.

Geoff: Some sort of German lager... drinkable and always excellent.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Maude: A hoodie is always handy, so I'd go with my vintage Unexpect hoodie

Geoff: Boy, I need to drop a little COVID weight, a lot of my size L stuff isn't comfy anymore! I guess it's my Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark tee, since that one is still comfy as heck.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Maude: I love my bandmates but I think I'd go with the love of my life (my boyfriend) if I get to choose ;P

Geoff: Similar to Maude I think it'd have to be my wife, even though it wouldn't be constant bliss I think she'd be able to keep me motivated and sane. And she'd probably pressure me into cleaning and renovating the shack as well.

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Nachtmuse

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Maude: Nightwish's older songs with Floor Jansen as a vocalist gets me every time. It would be the first live album they recorded with her (Wacken)

Geoff: That's a tough question, I'm not a big live recording guy. I mean a live show is awesome of course but you're only getting a piece of it when you listen to the recorded audio. For me that pales compared to the studio recording which has been tweaked and analyzed to be the best it can be. Having said that after some deliberation I'm choosing Pink Floyd - Pulse.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Maude: Definitely Corinne from Valfreya. If there's someone out there that will move heaven and hell to get me back from there, that would be her.

Geoff: Bruce Dickinson! I'm not sure what sort of bureaucracy he'd have to get past to pull it off, but I mean he can fly! He might be the man to rescue us!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Maude: I'm the smallest and weakest of the bunch and I know it, so I guess that would be me XD

Geoff: Alright Maude, that was pretty comprehensive. Next question please!

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Maude: This is a very hard question, but I think I'll go with Candice from Eths, as she influenced me the most when I was younger.

Geoff: So far my daughter can play the notes C, D and E on her little keyboard. And everyday she is teaching me new ways to be and influencing my life. It was also very easy to pull her out of that sinking ship because she's quite small. Children are the future!
