DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Karmen Field

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Karmen Field

Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.

This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find Karmen Field sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?

Find out now...

Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.

You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?

Molly - Laura Nyro & Labelle, Gonna Take a Miracle. It’s the album that’s always pulled me out of a bad mood. It’s got the most upbeat, dance around your kitchen vibe, with a select few songs more reflective and sensitive. It’s also an album I’ve listened to with my bestie since we were kids, we learned to harmonise by singing along to it.

Joe - Wrath, by Lamb of God. This is the album that got me into metal. I even have it tattooed on my arm!

Will - echoes, silence, patience and grace by the foo fighters. This was the first album I ever bought and has always been extra special for me. Dave Grohl epitomises what a rockstar should be and how they should act. It’s the perfect blend of heavy rock/punk riffs and beautiful soft acoustic sections, a modern masterpiece.

Lewis - Illuminance, by Virvum. It’s the goodest of all the music.

Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?

Molly - perfect circle, thirteenth step. There’s something captivating about the combination of a green eye, a dune style moon, and a yellow slug.

Joe - Lateralus by Tool - All those eyes can keep watch over me.

Will - Revolver by the Beatles! It’s the perfect representation of their transition from a rock and roll cliche to the band that made revolution in pop music, it's so eye-catching without having to be colourful.

Lewis - Roundabout by Yes. Because it’s cool!

There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?

Molly - The most ideal island drink….coconut rum! With mango juice, or pineapple juice (or neat!)

Joe - A nice paulaner weissbeir.

Will - Dark and stormy! Rum, ginger and lime. What more do you need!

Lewis - whatever is the strongest.

Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?

Molly - A Slipknot long sleeve tee shirt from Download 2023…I was dressed in full maggot attire on the hottest day of the year. We saw many bands that day, but before and after we referred to that day, as Slipknot day.

Joe - My “Stay Tech” tank top.

Will - T-shirt with the cover of killing joke by killing joke. Such an inspiration for so many bands and are still kicking ass on stage to this day

Lewis - My Cannibal Corpse T shirt.

You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?

Molly - to be honest, sounds grand! We would just write songs all day.

Joe - I can't think of a lovelier bunch, to be honest!

Lewis - My wonderful wife!

Will - Tough question!! A thousand beautiful groupies?!? Or Marcus miller and Anderson paak for the super funk jams!

DEVIL’S ISLAND featuring Karmen Field

There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?

Molly - Thin Lizzy, Live and Dangerous.

Joe - Korn MTV unplugged.

Will - Linkin Park - live in Texas. I used to have the dvd/cd years ago, it was (for me) them at the height of their sound and live prowess.

Lewis - Tool at Download! I was there in person and can attest, it was a sick gig.

You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?

Bruce Dickinson! With his inspiring vocals, pilots licence and amazing can do attitude, he’s the only one who can save us!

You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?

Will - Lewis

Rest of the band - Will

Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?

Molly - Bob Dylan.

Joe - Chris Adler

Lewis - Lemmy.

Will - Dave Grohl.
