DEVIL'S ISLAND featuring AeSect
Welcome to this weeks edition of Devil's Island! Every week we maroon a band or artist on the island and see what they get up to, how they cope with being all alone on a small island in the middle of the ocean. It's not your average desert island and we'll see just how each person copes with the extreme conditions.
This week when we arrived at Devil's Island we find AeSect sat on the beach. The island is far from their home, so how did they end up here and how did they cope with life on Devil's Island?
Find out now...
Welcome to The Razors'e Edge and our somewhat lovely, warm desert island. Don't worry about it's name I'm sure it's not as bad as that would suggest.
You're marooned here on this island, but before you ended up shipwrecked you chose one album that you couldn't live without. Which album did you each chose and why?
Luke - Tool Lateralus, possibly the greatest album ever written and I never get sick of it plus has a bit of everything to suit all moods
Willow - Symphony X - The Odyssey - For me Its an unbelievable Album from start to finish, Michael Romeo’s performance is absolutely flawless, and to top it all of, one of if not the best vocalists around today Russel Allen
Aido - St. Anger by Metallica or any Nickelback album.
Just behind that palm tree is a shack for each of you to stay in, with enough space for you to put up a poster on the wall of one album cover. What album cover do you each chose?
Luke - haha - probably Tool Lateralus again haha I’m still looking for all the hidden messages in the artwork so that would keep me entertained for a while
Willow - This is a hard question! Im tempted to go with something from Seagrave or Repka for nostalgic purposes but I'm actually going to go with a recent album cover by Dan Goldsworth “Coffin Feeder - Over the top”
Aido - Torture by Cannibal Corpse because we all know where we’re heading.
There's also a bar on this here island. But alas each of you only get to choose one drink for the entirety of your stay. What's your tipple of choice?
Luke - anyone who knows me will know I only drink cider, preferably Orchard Thieves
Willow - I generally drink Smithwicks, but I feel in keeping with the theme it should be a rum! And for me if we are talking Rum it gotta be Kraken!
Aido - Rum, obviously!
Your suitcases were lost when your ship sank, but you each managed to salvage one item of band merch. What’s the merch and for what band?
Luke - It’s a toss up between a decapitated long sleeve that I bought when we supported them a few years back and a Meshuggah T-shirt from one of my favourite live shows ever in Vicar Street in Dublin… at a push the Decapitated spheres of madness long sleeve but it’s close.
Willow - Honestly I keep losing my feckin shirts man, But currently its a Testament “Practise what you Preach“ Long Sleeve.
Aido - One of our own t-shirts because there are so many of them.
You’re sat on the island thinking “I’m stuck here on this island with my bandmates for eternity”… who would you rather have been shipwrecked with?
Luke - I’m legally obliged to say my wife and kids haha
Willow - God Dammit Luke now i'm the asshole if i don't say the same... Luke's wife and kids!
Aido - Solitude might be a better option
There's a walkman in your pocket, on the tape inside is the recording of the one live show that stands out for you. It could be any show, from any band, anywhere in the world. What show is on that walkman?
Luke - Testament live in London holds a place in my heart as it reminds me of gigging as a teen we use to listen and watch the live dvd to get hyped up before shows. But I think it’s gotta be Pantera 101 Proof Official Live.
Willow - G3 - Denver, Love this album! has so many notable players on it aside from the 3 lads it has Billy Sheehan, Tony Mcalpine, Jeff Campitelli and more so for one album it's pretty packed!
Aido - Our first ever show. Just to hear how bad it was.
You're getting desperate, you decide the only course of action is to put a message in a bottle and hope someone finds it. Your message could be to any member of any band, but should be the most suitable for a rescue attempt. Who is it?
Luke - I reckon anyone from Amon Amarth would be able to build a boat fairly handy to rescue us. Who better to call on than a bunch of vikings.
Willow - Definitely Amon Amarth!
Aido - Amon Amarth. They should have ships at the ready.
You've been stuck here for a while and food supplies are running low. There's only one thing for it... which fellow band member gets sacrificed to help the others survive?
Luke - I think Dave would have killed us all long before we got to that point haha
Willow - Easy, Dave!
Aido - Luke because he’s the tallest. More to go around
Finally, when the ship sank you each managed to save one person from the wreckage. That person is the one musician that has influenced your career the most, shaped your way of thinking and your outlook on life. Who did you save?
Luke - Danny Carey from tool, he can pay me back by teaching me how to be a drum god.
Willow - Its gotta be the legend that is/was Ronnie James Dio!
Aido - Lars Ulrich, unsung hero. Most of us wouldn't be here without him.
