Today we chat with Kensei
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Kensei: Hello there we are the Black Country Behemoth Kensei
Dave - Vocals
Matt - Guitars
Ian - Guitars
Inky - Bass
Luke - Drums
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
Kensei: Big chunky riffs with big melodic choruses, being influenced with various bands growing up including In Flames, Trivium, God Forbid, Lamb of God and many more!
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Kensei: We are immensely proud to say that we won this year's Metal to the Masses in Birmingham and we are insanely proud to represent the West Midlands this year at Bloodstock.
The Razor's Edge: How tough was this years M2TM competition?
Kensei: Amazingly tough! As we have all been on our local scene for a very long time we know the caliber of bands that come out of Birmingham and the local areas is so high! And this year was no exception! A lot of top quality bands and some very good friends made from this year's competition too! So I just want to give a shout out to all the bands that played this year! Been a really friendly competition!
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Kensei: It means the absolute world to us! Bloodstock is quite local to us and a few of the members are bloodstock regulars in visiting the festival and enjoying ourselves. There are a couple of bloodstock virginities being taken though for our drummer and bass player! And what a way to go to your first bloodstock! But yes we are immensely proud and we cannot wait to go and meet everyone!
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Kensei: RAW BRUTALITY! We really pride ourselves in our live shows creating that safe space where people can both go mental and have a great time! We really love performing in front of people and we really cannot wait to be there!!
The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Kensei: We are performing on Sunday this year.
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Kensei: Really looking forward to catching Unpeople as I'm a big fan of their debut EP that just dropped so that's gonna be immense. Also gonna be nice to see the guys in Xentrix again played a show with them a couple of years ago so will be amazing to catch them live again! And we are also looking forward to catching the countries finest on the Newblood Stage!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Kensei: We would love to use this platform to meet new people, make new friends and carry on playing heavy music for more people! We have also got a couple new singles to drop for loving ears and we are also shooting a music video soon with the amazing Ironside Studios which is going to be amazing!
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Kensei: Probably Midgaard for the party! Like I said we would love to meet everyone and introduce ourselves!!!
The Razor's Edge: It’s festival weekend, what’s your food vendor of choice on site?
Kensei: PSP Catering Greek sounds amazing!! Love some greek food but we are all very diverse so I imagine a lot of them are going to be explored!
