Album Review: Arch Enemy - Blood Dynasty
Reviewed by Tim Finch
A band who should need no introduction, Arch Enemy have been a staple of the melodic death metal scene for thirty years now. A statement that makes those who remember the early albums being unleashed feel very old right now.
This March the band release their twelfth studio album, the next chapter in a long and storied career that has seen the band rise through the ranks to huge tour headliners and make themselves household names, in the heavy metal community at least.
Latest opus ‘Blood Dynasty’ opens with ‘Dream Stealer’ a single originally released last July and one familiar to fans already. It’s in your face onslaught a precursor for what is to follow.

‘Illuminate The Path’ kicks off with a chugging riff that will have the listener head-banging along, where as ‘March of the Miscreants’ sets off at a blistering pace, with Alissa’s vocals a gut wrenching scream in your face.
Throughout the album the band demonstrate their musical growth. They are able to meld the harsh and soft vocals of Alissa to perfection, all whilst varying pace and styling. Riffs galore fill your ears whilst Amotts solos leave a lasting impression from the soaring section in ‘March of the Miscreants’ to the wailing end segment of ‘Dream Stealer’, followed through to the technicality of the solo in ‘A Million Suns’, the album has it all.
With a thirty year, twelve album career underneath them it’s impressive to see they can still produce a top level album full of the uniqueness we’ve come to know and love. From the guttural vocal perfection to solos galore, the album is an Arch Enemy fans wet dream.
