Washington DC based Wythersake are set to release their sophomore full length record At War With Their Divinity through Scarlet Records. The band created a style of blackened death metal which sees the band craft their art through the influence of the 90’s Scandinavian black and death metal scenes.

At War With Their Divinity acclimates itself very early on concentrating on providing the listener with a very full experience. More geared early on towards the blackened side of the style the bands sound is heavily dominated by strong symphonic elements along with drums which are set to full on attack mode especially the toms which absolutely fly through the speakers. The guitar work is a selection of quite simple yet solid rhythm playing which certainly fulfils the Scandinavian death metal style of the influence and this then goes on to explode with high flying lead work to really give these songs the additional punch.

Further into the record the band being in more of a death metal flavour where the drums lead with a far heavier dose of kick drums which could bring forth the apocalypse. These help a track such as “Devour the Throne of Grace” produce a powerful groove filled sound which is a nice accompaniment to the more heavier black metal styling of the opening 3 tracks which are featured. The symphonic and more melodic elements are really well included within the sound, where the melody works alongside the heavier parts to create a really rich sound without watering down the heaviness of the record. After all, who really wants a melo extreme metal record, I for one think you can keep that Melo crap as far away as possible.

At War With Their Divinity delivers twelve tracks which are created extremely well. It delivers a devilish punch of extreme metal which ticks the boxes of both the black metal and death metal styles perfectly.
