Album Review: Recall The Remains - Revenant

Recall the Remains are a band close to our hearts, we’ve known them a long time, we’ve watched them grow and develop and of course they hail from the same town in which The Razor’s Edge HQ sits. They are, to us, local lads done good.

This May they release their debut full length album, ‘Revenant’, an opus which highlights not only how far they have come but also just how powerful they have become!

Whilst being pigeon holed as “metalcore” the band offer so much more than that. Opening track ‘Fairfield’ highlights this with its atmospheric intro leading into a banging riff that allows the track to explode in the listeners ears. It also perfectly shows how the band are able to vary pace perfectly, whilst the juxtaposition of Jacob (harsh) and Jordan (clean) vocals helps draw the listener in.

‘Fever Dream’ stands out, with its blistering speed and wonderful riffs encapsulating everything this band are about. ‘Darker Path’ is, as the title suggests, darker, with a more frenetic delivery that will see the pits reach fever pitch when played live.

Elsewhere on the album, ‘Empty Woods' features haunting backing vocals akin to Sir Daniel Filth, whilst ‘Our Hell’ has points that hark back to early 2000’s metal at its finest.

Recall The Remains have never done anything by the book, whilst the brand is built on a metalcore foundation the songwriting, teamed with Jordans alternate vocals, allow the band to expand on the sound, leaving their own mark. If you want to hear modern metalcore with a twist, then ‘Revenant’ is one to wrap your ears around.
