Album Review: Dissonant Seepage - Dystopian Putrescence
Reviewed by Daniel Phipps
Having your record come out through Comatose Music is something that instantly will get my attention and the US brutal death metal act Dissonant Seepage have done just that with the upcoming release of their sophomore record Dystopian Putrescence.
The Rochester, New York band don't mess about with long winding intro samples; they come in right for the jugular as Dystopian Putrescence explodes right from the first play with its thick and full sound. The band certainly had an interesting take on their style of brutality as they seem to take the raw slamming style of Devourment and mix in the more dissonant tones of someone like Immolation. This is definitely an interesting idea unfortunately I don't feel this really hits the mark mainly down to two key factors. Firstly the production is way too polished it completely loses that raw edge, which is and was a key part of what makes the two aforementioned bands such monumental within the genre. The second is that the first ¾ of this record is quite an uninspired listen which really fails to hold my attention. Outside of a handful of cool grooves I find the majority of the riffs do absolutely nothing to excite me and the drums don't really elevate anything to the next level.

I was ready to completely write this record off but then Dead Carcass To Worship hits the speakers and I am asking where was this band six tracks ago? It's an electrifying, savage and punishing three minutes of brutality which is then followed by the album's title track where I feel that Dystopian Putrescence actually hits the mark it was looking for, the fury hits the dark, the darker vibe hits the spot and the absolute savagery is at its peak it's just unfortunate that the rest of the album fails to leave more of a mark on me. This isn't a record I really gelled with however based on the ending of the record it really could have.
