Album Review: Putridity - Morbid Ataraxia
Reviewed by Dan Phipps
It's mental how time flies and that it has been a decade since the masters of Italian sickness Putridity last released a full length record (2015’s Ignominious Atonement). The band gave us a five track EP back in 2023 which was a mixture of old, borrowed and new material and now we have Morbid Ataraxia eight brand new tracks, dealing with the oxymoronic human nature and they do this the Putridity way through unrelenting obscenity.
No nonsense is exactly what you expect from Putridity and that is exactly what you are getting. From the very start your audio sense is given an absolute beating with a waive of pinpoint accuracy from all involved. Punishing riffs, dominating and savage drums, topped off with disgusting vocals. Throw in a million pinch harmonics and you have the basis of what makes Putridity such a savage band.

One big factor in this record is for something so brutal the production comes through very clean without compromising the integrity of the album. The guitars sound extremely full and really fresh and this I think really drives this record, where historically as solid as the guitar playing on previous records it's always been the intensity and no holds barred drumming which has pushed the earlier Putridity albums.
As with the last couple of full lengths Morbid Ataraxia’s run time absolutely flies by and from the opening right through until the end you are absolutely greeted with brutal death metal at its very best. Putridity are an acquired taste for death metal fans, (I for one never rated their debut record) yet since they inked a deal with Willowtip they have continued to deliver the most savage material that you can find. Given the maturity of the production on Morbid Ataraxia and the fact that the band have in no way mellowed over the last decade this could end up being the death metal record to beat in 2025.
