Album Review: Vulgar Dissection - Liquifying Coagulated Viscera
Reviewed by Patrick O'Reilly
Vulgar Dissection burst onto the UK Brutal Death Metal/Slam scene back in back in 2020 with debut album ‘Buried and Forgotten’ They followed this with a period of sustained touring, honing their craft to enable the creation of this behemoth of an album.
Adding to the template thrown down by bands such as Dying Fetus, Suffocation and Devourment they mix fast paced Death Metal with unearthly low-end growls and some truly insane breakdowns resulting in a supreme showcase of brutality and ferocity.
I loved the way that Vulgar Dissection mix up their music and balance the more slamming parts with fast riffage, they show a canny eye for song structure that is often lacking in this type of music.
Highlights include ‘Gasmask Asphyxiation’ with its main riff that echoes Cannibal Corpse’s ‘Addicted to vaginal skin’ and also ‘Intraoperative Insemination’ which lurches like a deranged and wounded beast stomping all under its feet.
I think the most impressive aspect of this album though is the production. I haven't heard such a clean and pure sound in a long time, all instruments crystal clear and audible in the mix, particularly the bass guitar which is a joy to listen to, technical yet still barbaric, an instrument so often lost in a muddy mix it’s great to hear it shine through here.
It’s obvious that Vulgar Dissection have crafted a supreme slice of slam laden brutality with this album and deserve a lot of success with it, I can’t wait to hear this material in the live setting as this band are playing Offal Fest on the 27th July in Manchester, make sure you are there to experience a pummelling too!!
