Bloodstock Bound: Koba
As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.
Today we chat with Koba
The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.
Koba: I’m Lewy (bass) we have Matty (guitar) James (guitar) and Jay (Drums)
The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?
Koba: We’re an Instrumental Post-Metal band that relies on big atmospherics, and a mixture of varying effects pedal.
The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?
Koba: We won M2TM East Anglia
The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?
Koba: The competition was extremely tough, there were so many bands in the competition that we feel all deserved a slot at Bloodstock. In particular the final, and our semi final heats were brimming with incredible bands and great people/musicians. We were so shocked to make it, but here we are! We attended all other heats and semi finals – and all of the bands were so good. East Anglia’s music scene is incredibly strong currently.
The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?
Koba: It is an incredible honour. As frequent spectators over the years we’ve discovered some great bands, met some great people, and it’s always such a great vibe. We’ve got some incredible memories there together, and it’s beyond words how grateful we are to be given the opportunity to play.
The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?
Koba: Chugging riffs, and big atmospherics that you can get lost in.

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?
Koba: We are playing on Sunday
The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?
Koba: Gojira, Mastodon, local legends Shrapnel on Friday on the main stage to name a few. Also the Grey on the VIP stage Sunday. Fingers crossed we don’t clash because those guys are incredible live! We often spend quite a lot of time checking out the bands on the EMP stage and new blood stages as the bands all play their hearts out, and we often discover hidden gems. Which is a big part of what the festival is about for us!
The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?
Koba: We already feel so grateful that we’ve gone this far. But our plans are to record our debut album and get playing it live in its entirety as soon as possible. We just want to play everywhere.
The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?
Koba: We’re in the artists section, but we’ll no doubt spend time with a lot of friends in various camp sites.
The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?
Koba: James is all for Pina Coladas, all day, every day. The rest of us will have Guinness no doubt. Maybe a little bit of water.
