Bloodstock Bound: Ocean Planet

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Ocean Planet

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Ocean Planet: Hi! I’m Khi, Ambient Guitarist and primary songwriter for Ocean Planet. The band was founded by myself, and I handle all the live textures and atmospherics. Joining us are Rob on Vocals, providing some intense pitch shouts and screams, Dan and Sarah on lead and rhythm guitars creating those driven riffs and cutting leads, Chris on bass holding down a solid foundation for all the tracks, and Sacha on drums, who’s dynamics and ferocity has transformed the entire discography. As the band has matured, we’ve all refined our individual sound and that’s resulted in how people hear us now!

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Ocean Planet: More from a progressive metal standpoint, taking influence from bands like Meshuggah, Periphery TesseracT, Textures and Gojira. There are some metalcore influences in there but from a song writing perspective, most of the ambient and textural inspiration for our current songs originate from game soundtracks, such as Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Zone of the Enders and Shadow of the Colossus to name a few. The material we like to make must have a back story or lore, it just allows us to have so much more fun with it and we feel it enriches our writing!

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Ocean Planet: We came back from being finalist at the M2TM in Oxford in 2024 to taking the win in 2025. We had a different line up, so Rob wasn’t around for the previous year. It was immense pressure to nail these songs better than we had done the year prior. Every gig was an improvement – it had to be. We’re all still in awe that we made it all the way to the end.

The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?

Ocean Planet: Both 2024 and 2025 were brutal – 2025 however was a different beast entirely. It became apparent from the first heat that if we were to win this, we’d need to do a lot more than what we were doing. We majorly focused our energy on parts of our set that needed attention and refined our live performance. As the rounds continued, so did the competition ramp up intensely. The final itself was truly a monumental day for everyone, it essentially was like a festival, 9 bands playing with 5 competing, we managed to get the last slot of the night, so the pressure had been building all through the day. We’d seen 4 seriously colossal bands just before us and somehow had to get past all of them. It was insane.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Ocean Planet: It’s the posters that does it – you see them when you’re a starting musician or kid and you so badly want to believe that one day you’ll get a chance to do something that amazing, but as we all know getting your foot in the door is incredibly difficult. I think for all of us, we look back on our journeys as young, aspiring musicians and look to where we are now and realise that this is just the start for us and if we’re willing to keep pushing, we can climb higher. To be playing a festival alongside bands such as August Burns Red, Trivium, Gojira and Mastodon, all of whom have influenced us at one point in our journey is unforgettable and validating. This is much more than just a show to us.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Ocean Planet: eople can expect something layered and intense. We have a lot of ambient/synth sounding layers in our songs that weave in and out of the main rhythms. This combined with catchy riffs and a wide stereo rhythm section of two guitars creates a huge soundscape and dark undertones that fill the room. We play all these textures live instead of through a backing track which lets us do some spontaneous and unique stuff during the performance!

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Ocean Planet: We’re on the New Blood Stage on Sunday. It’s a fitting slot given Gojira are headlining - a culmination and a launch point all at once.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Ocean Planet: Gojira, August Burns Red, Lucuna Coil and Trivium. One new blood stage band who sounds crazy good is Symbiote, so hopefully will catch them and watch their set!

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first steppingstone in a bands journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Ocean Planet: We’ve just released our first album “Immersion” and have an entire new album almost ready to go and will start dropping some singles later this year. Of course, we need to be gunning for the right gigs that show case us in the best way possible to those who’ll enjoy it! We’ve got new things planned, music videos, lore videos, new merch and promo etc all alongside the release of an even bigger album that’s seriously levelled up our sound. This opportunity at Bloodstock has given us the kick we needed to take this up a notch.

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Ocean Planet: Some of us will be in artists camp and some of us will be stay nearby, but we’ll be around from early morning to late night getting to know as many people as we can and supporting all those new blood bands. To think we’ve all had a similar journey getting to this point, it’s given us a sense of camaraderie. Can’t wait to see them!

The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

Ocean Planet: I’ve only seen the band drink water, but that’s not very rock n roll, so I’m going to have to go with Sanpellegrino, Limonata to be exact. Or maybe just down a bunch of monster energy because we’re so hardcore.

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few weeks!

Ocean Planet: We’re thrilled and can’t wait to meet new friends; we’d love to see you in the crowd to please come join us for lore driven riffs!
