Bloodstock Bound: Exorcism

Bloodstock Bound: Exorcism

As Bloodstock gets closer, we delve deep into the line up to find out more about some of the bands playing the New Blood and EMP stages at this years event.

Today we chat with Exorcism

The Razor's Edge: Please introduce yourself and your band mates.

Exorcism: I am Freddie Widdows, the lead vocalist and guitarist of Exorcism

We also have
Will Butler on rhythm guitar
Oscar Owen on bass guitar
And Nick Cureton on drums

The Razor's Edge: How would you describe your sound?

Exorcism: I’d describe us as a band that combines the ripping speed and guts of thrash metal with the crushing brutality of death metal and hints of hardcore and crowbar-esc sludge in their creating a style we find is unique to us.

The Razor's Edge: How did you land your spot on the Bloodstock bill?

Exorcism: We landed our spot at bloodstock through the Metal To The Masses competition, competing just outside of our hometowns in Coventry.

The Razor's Edge: How tough was the competition this year?

Exorcism: The competition this year was nuts and has given us some new favourite bands and mates, for example: Soulride, Below the Stones, Inflictions and Massasauga to only name a few.

The Razor's Edge: What does playing at Bloodstock mean to you?

Exorcism: I think I speak for the whole band here when i say that playing at Bloodstock is a dream come true for us, to play a festival with so many of our favourite bands and to show more people what we can do means a lot to me especially as building this band over the last two years has really taken over my life in both good and bad ways so it’s amazing to see it finally pay off.

The Razor's Edge: For people who’ve never seen you live, what can they expect at Bloodstock?

Exorcism: People who’ve never seen us live can expect to definitely be shocked throughout our set, consistent pace changes from blazing fast to parts so heavy that everyone’s head must bang.

The Razor's Edge: What day are you performing?

Exorcism: We are playing on the Saturday, the time will be announced soon but we’ll say it’ll be very hot in those circle pits.

The Razor's Edge: What other bands are you looking forward to watching at Bloodstock this year?

Exorcism: I am personally super excited for: Flotsam and Jetsam, Nailbomb, Warbringer who we’re warming up with on the Friday in Birmingham and particularly Obituary on the Sunday.

The Razor's Edge: Playing the New Blood Stage is just the first stepping stone in a band's journey. What’s next in your plans for world domination?

Exorcism: We want to use Bloodstock as a launch pad to get ourselves hopefully some form of UK tour with a legend like Xentrix, Evildead, Onslaught, Exhorder etc: and use that as a way to move into shows in America, Europe etc

The Razor's Edge: Are you camping with the fans? Which campsite are you heading for?

Exorcism: Sadly we aren’t allowed in public camping, due to it being sold out we have to camp in artist camping.

The Razor's Edge: You’ve gotta keep hydrated at Bloodstock, what is your drink of choice for the weekend?

Exorcism: Our collective drink of choice for bloodstock weekend is a nice cold Pepsi, because all we want is a damn Pepsi.

The Razor's Edge: See you at Bloodstock in a few days!

Exorcism: Can’t wait to thrash the roof off the tent!
