Album Review: Alter Bridge - Alter Bridge
Reviewed by Tim Finch
One band set to have an absolute huge 2026 are the formidable rockers Alter Bridge. Riding high off past success they enter the new year with an arena tour looming, followed by a huge headline set at Cardiff Castle for thier very own Blackbird Festival over the summer. Yet before any of that happens their eighth – self titled – studio album will land this January.
The record kicks off with a lusciously addictive riff from Tremonti on ‘Silent Divide’, sucking the listener in immediately before that distinctive Kennedy vocal kicks in. The song is a statement of intent, it is full of hooks that wont let you go and building in intensity over its five minute duration.
The tone shifts as ‘Rue The Day’ sets off, a dark undercurrent looms masking is about to unfold. The song has less of a crunch to it than the opener, staying mysteriously dark yet utterly melodic. Then just when the listener is not expecting it ‘Power Down’ smacks you square in the face.
Throughout the record the band keep the listener on the edge of their seat. The upbeat rockers, mixed with the more intense melodic numbers, each twist and turn takes you on another journey in the bands masterclass of rock anthem songwriting.
The whole album is a full step up from 'Pawns & Kings’, just when you thought the band had peaked they go and crank it up a gear. From the intense, brooding atmosphere on ‘Disregarded’ to Mark Tremonti stretching his vocal legs on ‘Tested and Able’ Alter Bridge show they have it all. Mixed in with the softer acoustic numbers like ‘Hang By A Thread’ and outright rock bangers in ‘What Lies Within’ and ‘Playing Aces’.
If anyone really still doubted Alter Bridge's credentials, their self titled opus will wash it all away. All too often an album can be described as a bands “best yet” but in this case it genuinely is true. Have the band peaked? Only time will tell. But to kick start 2026 they take a giant leap with an unforgettable album and their upcoming live shows will demonstrate just how big they have now become.

This was a wonderful return to what I love about Alter Bridge. My favourite band since high school and so shall it remain! 18 years and counting!
