Cowboy Mathcore Irishmen by unofficial way of Texas Uncultivates storm in with their full-length album This Will Become Clear Later Like The French Revolution (so be referred to as “TWBCLLTFR” for short, and “the album” for even shorter). Released by way of Horsebox Records, I’ll break down the album below a bit, but an overall summary? Sign me up. They guys are a really fun, sorely missed callback to bizarre stabby rhythms, aggressive vocals and awesome musicianship, whilst striking the balance between “let’s have fun” and “actually we’re pretty good” perfectly.

Bar piano gives way to diminished chords and rhythmic attacks in an intro track, followed by I Am Your God Your Father and Your Boss with some Botch-reminiscent riffage and aggression and Steaksauce Moustache chaotic party vibes. Great Minds Think of Mike continues the album with exciting, unapologetic, earworm rhythms indicative of Rolo Tomassi influences.

Frantic, anxious guitar work starts off Every Day I Wake Up on the Bonnet of a Different Car in probably my favourite track of the album, then giving way to Oliver; a natural head-nodder of a plodding, ugly riff with a vocal pattern and delivery that Jacob Bannon would be proud of.

My only complaint about the album is the interlude track which follows next, simply out of personal preference for albums of this genre, though, whilst I’m of the opinion it’s not needed, fundamentally there wasn’t anything wrong with it, and my only real complaint about it is that it took me out of the party mood a bit.

That’s all pushed aside with the next track, Flatley, getting back into the swing of things, followed by the loony-toon guitar work of Dread First, the dischordant and aggressive Rental Snake with almost verging on Full of Hell vibes and a nice unique groove in the second half, and the final track of The Ice Bed World Tour of North America making it very worth listening to the album until the end.

Uncultivates don’t sacrificed substance for style, and whilst they show off a pretty cool albeit non-serious theme as a band in general, they don’t fuck around when it comes to the delivery of their tracks. Production is on point, musicianship is advanced without being wanky, and TWBCLLTFR is a brilliant offering of an album.
